@MyWebDoctorUK Thankfully, this is happening in many spots in the UK. It's gradual, but very much happening. TNBI people should not be forced to pay privately for their needs. It excludes far too many.
You said WE. How are you fighting that doesn't directly benefit yourself? Genuine question.
For years physical paper prescriptions have included a wet signature - signed by random staff at GenderGP, forging the actual doctors signature. She's in Romania, you see. If they went to her to be signed the turnaround time would be too high. So they just pretend instead.
@supersensuel It's control. They don't want experience. They want people to do as they're told and not think about it. Thing is, we all joined the team with personal investment, hence why staff often object.
I'm not saying GenderGP shouldn't exist. Or doesn't need to in most instances. I'm saying they should be better. And that Helen is not the saviour she makes herself out to be. GGP is over priced for everything they provide. They get you what you need, but are not your friends.
@supersensuel The conditions at GGP have been toxic for a long while. They get round it by churning staff. Replace those that disagree with new often younger people. We are told not to communicate with people outside, not to message each other privately. Reminded it's "for the patients".
@Lokinne Depends where you are. There's no one stop fix. Trans Health Hub in Brighton is a good example. But GenderGP isn't really all that different to DIY - you're paying for "process". Aren't gender experts in the slightest. Most working are young and inexperienced admin staff.
This needs to be shared when praising Helen Webberley as someone who cares about trans people's wellbeing. It starts at home.
When staff at GenderGP asked in writing for better conditions for TNB members:
@NaffDooDaa @Lokinne But also, can't comment on your situation, obviously, but most people aren't often waiting 21 years at the shitty system's worst. That's outrageous.
@NaffDooDaa @Lokinne That's not what I was saying. It is improving. Steps are being taken. More GPs are prescribing in the interim. More training being given. My comment wasn't supposed to solve the problem, but depending on where you are in the country things have shifted a lot since 2001.
Something people should really look into more too for transparency. More money IN than OUT and it certainly hasn't all been used for trans youth either (as stated). Was kept in the company account too, not separate as it should have been. The fund was not entirely as it appeared.

Don't be forced as a trans person to believe the community needs GenderGP. It doesn't. We need change. We need better access to care. GenderGP isn't barrier free like terfs would have you believe. They're just a different set of barriers. And ones still set by rich cis people.
GenderGP won't be around forever. Change is happening. Trans healthcare is improving. But there is much to still be done. GenderGP aren't doing that.
No one need get rich from your necessary treatment.
