The 12z GFS is trying to unleash an absolutely monstrous mid-July heat dome over the western U.S., with a vast core of record-shattering 500mb heights centered on the Great Basin and Rockies.

Still way out there, but that is a nuclear-looking upper-air pattern. If anything remotely resembling this verifies, we could be staring at a truly high-end western heat event.
