@syrianBanana speaking for myself, it’s not hate. it’s just an overly saturated category, even more so with vibe coders
also the way these new apps are being monetized is off putting. the OGs of Quran apps (many of whom are my friends) always did it في سبيل الله
Actually this is the correct take. And more importantly, western nations could plausibly beat China by actually getting good at infra.
But since they absolutely suck at building anything besides software, it’s really only a matter of time….
this perspective sacrifices nvidia and keeps AI labs the winner while saying it's about beating china
you can also beat china by aggressively selling nvidia into their markets and preventing their inevitable self sufficiency
of course that would sacrifice the AI labs instead
Chocolate is so misunderstood so here’s an easy formula:
{high quality} * (cacao + milk + sugar)
It’s well worth paying more for a healthier and more organic chocolate (generally European or Japanese). As they say, eat fast, die young.
North Americans constantly complain about affordability and unpaid/nonexistent family leave, which are real concerns. But even in Scandinavia, those measures don’t move the needle on TFR.
The uncomfortable truth is, modernity has changed the mental calculus on having kids.
US fertility rates just hit another record low
In 2025, the US general fertility rate fell to 53.1 - the lowest level ever recorded
Japan, South Korea, and Germany have already been shrinking for years. Japan has been shrinking for years, South Korea’s population has already started to decline, and Germany would be shrinking without immigration
Now the UK joins them - deaths will outnumber births every single year starting in 2026
No economy grows without people
No pension system survives without young workers
No culture persists without families having children
This is the slowest civilizational crisis in human history
For any future babies we are scrapping the crib & just going straight to a double mattress on the floor with a gate around it, somewhere between these two.
I think it’s wise for youngsters to spend at least a few years in the bay. But it def gets myopic and turns into a tech echo chamber after a while.
also extremely fragmented on socioeconomic lines which is unhealthy for raising self-aware kids
Correct. Astounding article and young parents especially need to question the status quo of everything, from daycare to diapers and everything in between.
In the 1950s, over 90% of toddlers were potty trained by 18 months.
Today, that number is about 4%.
Why? One reason: disposable diapers block the signals that help us learn.
This isn't just about potty training. We block signals with comfort everywhere.

How Pakistan made the world over 3 trillion dollars richer
On April 7, the world edged toward Trump's 8pm ultimatum that "a whole civilization will die tonight." By mid-afternoon, Polymarket gave less than a 5% chance for a ceasefire. But then in a flurry of last-minute diplomacy led by Pakistan's PM Shehbaz Sharif, ceasefire odds shifted from near-impossibility to 100%, as both U.S. and Iranian leadership publicly acknowledged the important role played by Pakistan.
The sharp shift in probability of ceasefire from near-zero to certainty, allows us to estimate cleanly the market value of Pakistan's successful diplomacy. There was a sharp jump of 2.9% in S&P500 around the ceasefire announcement. The reaction was similar the world over.
Global markets represent about $125T, so a 2.9% jump represents a gain of 3.6 trillion dollars for the world. Pakistan helped create TEN times its own GDP for the world!
For me, the best part is not the trillions of dollar, but seeing Pakistan on the world stage as a peace maker.
I hope Pakistan runs with this new identity by promoting peace not only abroad, but also at home. That means moving away from politics of division and exclusion, and treating every citizen as its own.

I had an exchange with one of the imams of the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus 🇸🇾 about this very topic (Bitcoin)
We still have a long way to go as there are lots of misconceptions. Also my brain started hurting once we started talking about it in Arabic.
CC @ZabAkbar@MBitcoiner
Mufti of Syria, Shaykh Usamah al-Rifa'i, was asked about the ruling of Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies
He responded: Purchasing and using them is Haram, as they are ambiguous unguaranteed contracts
Ultimately, I regrettably left the industry for these reasons. I truly hope things get better.
But it's fundamentally hard to overcome extremely powerful lobbies and powerful corporations that resist changes that impact their bottom-line. Sensible regulation is long overdue /fin
I spent over a decade working & building startups in US healthcare. It is one of the most misunderstood industries by the general public and this is on purpose.
While taking care of people is noble, the business of the industry is anything but.
a short 🧵
Why aren’t any of these at risk hospitals publishing their full accounting so everyone can see where they spend their money ?
All but one group of hospitals that I have looked at potentially investing in, spend so much on consultants and fees that it’s no wonder they are at risk
Plus, I have NEVER seen an industry that is worse than hospitals when it comes to buying medications and items like implants, screws, other devices. They overpay for everything.
And then when you show them how to save money, their “supply chain” employees resist any change.
They are so set in their ways, it’s a shock more don’t go out of business.
Prove me wrong.
Things I personally witnessed while working in the industry:
-Insurance companies displaying their stock price in the same portal their employees are supposed to accept/deny claims
-Hospital executives racketeering and openly soliciting bribes for [redacted]
and so much more
