@johanhofman@NukeSpaceCadet@Sci_Phile@GBruhaug I'd say overall, right now letting nuc waste be the roadblock to using nuc power is like refusing to call the fire department when the house is on fire because the lights and sirens might bother the neighbors.
Yeah, they might be bothered, but at least ya'ld still have a house.
@johanhofman@NukeSpaceCadet@Sci_Phile@GBruhaug Solar, wind, etc. cannot stand alone to replace FF power. Nuc power can.
Yes it has waste. Properly handled its impact can be tightly controlled. Nor does it contribute to CC.
Modern nuc designs also have less waste than prior gens. Might even be cheaper, if given a chance.

@dduane lol...
You realize this means all they needed to do to defeat Thanos was to find the Infinite Improbability Generator.
And since that just needs a finite one and a cup of tea, Dr. Strange could have done it all in an afternoon... in the middle of a Devon v. Cornwall scone spat.
@tegmark Yeah, it is. Makes it easier to see how good the best argument against such AI is. That argument....
<drumroll>
... TalkieToaster (tm)
Seriously. I'd take HAL, WOPR & Skynet over a world filled with TT and its ilk.
@StevenBrust I thought the forms weren't due until next Monday. Oh well, I won't have time to fill them out until Thursday week after next any way.
But it was great seeing you all there. And I'm totally looking forward to last year's seminar. I hear my questions during the Q&A were good.
@Goopypanther@TheREALeataTREE@pilliarscreatio@nyrath And that surplus power was all to the good, given half the main solar panels were lost during launch & other half jammed up by the sunshield that was also lost. If I read right, that power from ATM was needed to even allow the 1st crew to repair the remaining main panel.
@LaResnick A few other names pop to mind like Maximilien Robespierre or Lavrentiy Beria.
But the one that strikes me as the best option is Napoleon. Powerless, in exile, on a puny island in the middle of nowhere.
Can we hope that this is Putin's Waterloo?
@HNTurtledove@StevenBarnes1 Haven't read it (yet.. probably will eventually). But recognized the ref. from having read a fair bit of their other works and knowing I have that gap in my intake.
It just struck my as something that could show up Messrs. Barnes & Niven's Dream Park.
@HNTurtledove@StevenBarnes1 Might not be up Dr. Pournelle's alley.
But if this showed up in dome B at Dream Park, I'd put my hat in the ring to play. I'd be a little leery of as a game meant for dome A, though.
@muskrat_john Wait... I thought you said that was an attack to control, not an attack to destroy.
Were the Boy Sprouts being supported by both Joggers and Underground Newspapers? And how many megacredits went into that attack?
@thisnorthernboy Ditto.
Indeed, my handle here (I've used in multiple places since the 90s) was inspired pretty directly from Bleyn the Champion. Well that and I liked its resonance with Bleys from Zelazney's Amber novels.
