@waywardstrategy Marines in Starcraft- T1 units should fill one of two roles in RTS games- either cheap throw aways to keep you alive until other strategies can come online or as a unit you can build around, given investment. Marines fill both roles. (IMO SC/SC2 have the best T1 units of any RTS)
