Real facts but I'm insanely jealous of the Deaf community for having a community and a culture
I fully understand that blind people don't share a language or anything but I've literally never met another blind person irl and it's super isolating #actuallyBlind#legallyBlind
Today on I wish I learned braille and whatever the hell they use for tactile graphing: I have math tomorrow and my eyes are burning in anticipation for the 90 minutes of max zoomed computer screen I can barely read
Huge fan of using blind and low vision instead of visually impaired. There is no need to use Visually impaired when it is not a medical term, legal term or in the IDEA. it just serves to make ableism more prevalent instead of just saying blind. As a professional I will push this.
@FatElvis04 Direct translation: my vision is, by definition, below a certain acuity or visual field at best correction, except minus the very important BEST CORRECTION part
You're right, ableds ARE weird
I really think there should be more awareness about blindness in the public. More tv characters or something. I have to explain to every person I meet at least twice that no, I cannot get glasses or surgery, otherwise I wouldn't say blind, and yes, I can see some close things.
As someone living with a visual impairment, one of the most insulting things I hear regularly from sighted people is the ‘I’m basically blind without my glasses!!!’ tripe. It makes my skin crawl.
I'm so good at faking being neurotypical. I really am. Sometimes, though, I'd rather someone communicate the way that's natural for me instead of the other way around #ActuallyAutistic
