Ever wanted an interactive lightning-fast solver for models in physics, chemistry, or biology? Do you have a web browser?
I'm thrilled to announce https://t.co/aq0R29IQMW, built explicitly to solve PDE models interactively on most devices, written by @bj_w95@Pecnut and I.
@LANEVOL @JindraBrejcha @CurrentBiology@UNIGEnews This was an excellent paper to read, and I'm very glad to see it make the cover! Very cool science! 😀
Front cover alert 🚨 our research on the mechanics behind a dog's iconic wet nose is featured on the @CurrentBiology cover! Learn how skin growth & blood vessels shape those unique grooves & domes - a must read for biology & physics fans 🐶🔬 @UNIGEnews

@caustic_agent Importantly, it also discourages the absolutely crucial element of research that is diversity in perspectives/understanding.
There is no unique way to be a good scientist/mathematician. There are numerous different ways of thinking which can be invaluable to collective progress.
@sp_monte_carlo I was trying to find an example of this (or rather, a very short/elementary/compact) proof of a continuous function being nowhere differentiable. Haven't spent long looking but feel a 'simple' example proof would be useful for teaching!
@TimHenke9 Prigogine and a few others have noted aspects of this (see the second quote in this section starting with "It is a remarkable fact...") He and others (e.g. Anderson's 'More is Different') also lamented a bit the sometimes narrow focus of HEP.

Chalkdust issue 20 is out now!
Our latest issue features spirographs, complex triangles and a lot of ants, plus all your favourite regulars.
You can read it now at https://t.co/GzP3cOaqEA
I'm super excited to have a new preprint - Manifold Diffusion Geometry
Diffusion geometry *robustly* measures curvature, dimension, and tangent spaces of data!

@no_earthquake Academia is at least one part pyramid scheme. We can say it is also lots of other good things (scholarship, research, sharing of deep human knowledge etc) but modern Universities are also definitely about churning out degrees.
@philipcball I sincerely hope things get better here for you. Your writings have had a strong impact on many of us, and I'm very grateful for having had even brief interactions here.
@DavidKButlerUoA In parts of dynamics, these are "transversal points" or "non-degenerate zeros." Often one talls about "transversality" to mean "the thing actually crosses and doesn't just touch."
A biologist and a mathematician walk into @TheCrick - Curious what happens?

We've not forgotten that it's a spooky time of year. Check out this Navier-Stokes sim of fluid flow (Re = 5) in a season-appropriate domain.
Navier-Stokes sims will be available soon, live on your device.

@js_thrill@lastpositivist Calling 'White Psychodrama' (a fascinating read btw!) racism is really funny in a meta kind of way. I suppose this is to be expected!
