As bulldozers arrive in Big Bend National Park today, quick reminder of what specifically the govt is planning there: https://t.co/8tSdrrMH5h
This really is a historic moment, where almost the entire southern edge of the park is set to become a border security construction zone.
Contractors are breaking ground on a $1.7 billion dollar project in Big Bend National Park that no one will talk about, despite the hefty price tag and the fact that illegal border crossing within BBNP accounts for 0.045% of Border Patrol apprehensions. https://t.co/9pKuV2B50l

ALERT: A bulldozer and work crew has been trucked into Big Bend National Park. This is at Castolon, about five miles downstream from Santa Elena Canyon.
DHS has refused to share their plans publicly after waiving all environmental protections. Destruction is imminent.
Dynamite blasting and barrier construction is imminent in Big Bend National Park. Construction workers are arriving this weekend.
They plan on plowing a "patrol road" through this rugged mountainside, and all along the river corridor.
Virtually nobody crosses the border here.
The yet unwritten story is the complete unforced error Texas Republicans just committed by banning its own legal weed market just months before the most competitive election we’ve seen in years.
i need everyone to know i got the connection round at trivia based off one clue: dynamite. the final connection was BTS. thank you to everyone who puts them on my feed every day
We just got back from Lochiel on the Arizona-Sonora border, where DHS is demolishing ancient cottonwood trees that are older than the border itself to clear a path for the wall.
People have gathered to sit in the last remaining tree that contractors have targeted. Yesterday, one person was arrested.
These cottonwoods provide crucial habitat for birds and wildlife. I'm told an endangered yellow-billed cuckoo has been frequenting the last tree standing.
We (Center for Biological Diversity) are actively suing DHS for issuing legal waivers that bypass all environmental laws for border wall construction. Because people and wildlife in the borderlands deserve the same protections that exist everywhere else in America.
BREAKING: DHS contractors are demolishing ancient cottonwoods in Lochiel, Arizona for the border wall. These trees are 200-plus years old—older than the border itself.
Protestors are on site. I’m told there has been an arrest. Limited cell service there, awaiting more info.
The Rio Grande is the beating heart of Big Bend National Park. This is the plain truth for Big Bend's ecology, recreational use and cultural history. Water is life in the desert. If you know Big Bend at all then you know this. And bulldozers are rapidly closing in on it.
