The δ13C records of 11 Pacific coastal trees have been measured. Relationships between δ13C, ring area, and ring width were investigated. Three of the six trees with records longer than 200 years yield a significant (2σ level or better) correlation between δ13C and ring area. The correlation is most pronounced for Sequoia giganteum, where the variability in ring area accounts for 60% of the δ13C variance. The environmepntal factors influencing the isotopic composition of trees are many. A major portion of the pre-1850 variability in the δ13C record is most likely caused by variable isotope fractionation of the trees. Only about one quarter of the δ13C variance in the average record can be removed by normalizing on ring area. The remaining δ13C variability results in a standard deviation of 16 ppm in model-calculated preindustrial CO2 levels. This is an upper limit for atmospheric CO2 variability induced by changes in the size of the biospheric reservoir. Average preindustrial CO2 levels are estimated to be in the 260–290 ppm range. The cumulative amount of biospheric carbon released to the atmosphere between 1600 and 1975 is approximately 150±100 gigatons C.

We present measurements of the stable carbon isotope ratio in air extracted from Antarctic ice core and firn samples. The same samples were previously used by Etheridge and co-workers to construct a high precision 1000-year record of atmospheric CO2 concentration, featuring a close link between the ice and modern records and high-time resolution. Here, we start by confirming the trend in the Cape Grim in situ δ13C record from 1982 to 1996, and extend it back to 1978 using the Cape Grim Air Archive. The firn air δ13C agrees with the Cape Grim record, but only after correction for gravitational separation at depth, for diffusion effects associated with disequilibrium between the atmosphere and firm, and allowance for a latidudinal gradient in δ13C between Cape Grim and the Antarctic coast. Complex calibration strategies are required to cope with several additional systematic influences on the ice core δ13C record. Errors are assigned to each ice core value to reflect statistical and systematic biases (between ± 0.025‰ and ± 0.07‰); uncertainties (of up to ± 0.05‰) between core-versus-core, ice-versus-firn and firn-versus-troposphere are described separately. An almost continuous atmospheric history of δ13C over 1000 years results, exhibiting significant decadal-to-century scale variability unlike that from earlier proxy records. The decrease in δ13C from 1860 to 1960 involves a series of steps confirming enhanced sensitivity of δ13C to decadal timescale-forcing, compared to the CO2 record. Synchronous with a ‘Little Ice Age’’ CO2 decrease, an enhancement of δ13C implies a terrestrial response to cooler temperatures. Between 1200 AD and 1600 AD, the atmospheric δ13C appear stable.

The δ13C value of the dissolved inorganic carbon in the surface waters of the Pacific Ocean has decreased by about 0.4 per mil between 1970 and 1990. This decrease has resulted from the uptake of atmospheric CO2 derived from fossil fuel combustion and deforestation. The net amounts of CO2 taken up by the oceans and released from the biosphere between 1970 and 1990 have been determined from the changes in three measured values: the concentration of atmospheric CO2, the δ13C of atmospheric CO2 and the δ13C value of dissolved inorganic carbon in the ocean. The calculated average net oceanic CO2 uptake is 2.1 gigatons of carbon per year. This amount implies that the ocean is the dominant net sink for anthropogenically produced CO2 and that there has been no significant net CO2 released from the biosphere during the last 20 years.

In fact, present-day volcanoes emit relatively modest amounts of CO2, about as much annually as states like Florida, Michigan, and Ohio.

Es gibt kein lateinisches Adjektiv totalis. Das tritt erst sporadisch in mittellateinischen Texten der Neuzeit auf.
Außerdem wäre zu klären, woher denn der Wortausgang -tär kommen soll. Die deutsche Form ist wohl aus dem Französischen übernommen ("L'Allemagne totalitaire" von 1933), der Ursprung liegt aber wenige Jahre früher im Italienischen ("Regime totalitario fascista").

Der Beschreibung der Sache ist aber entgegen einigen philosophischen Quatschkommentaren hier zutreffend: Zwar wird das "cancellare i partiti" in den damaligen Quellen genannt, aber nur als erster Schritt der Methode "conquistare lo Stato nella sua totalità". Das Endziel war in Italien wie in Deutschland "costituire un populo solo ed unito" (Auflösung des Volks und Gründung einer Volksgemeinschaft). Dieses Ziel darf man auch dort unterstellen, wo man heute von totalitär spricht.

Nachtrag zum Pfingstwort: Etymologie der Zehnerwörter von 20 bis 50 im Griech. u Lat. Ganz unten die Ordinalzahl mit dem tó-Suffix, das ja auch im deutschen 'fünfzigs-t-er' steckt. 'Pfingsten' ist als ἡ πεντηκοστὴ ἡμέρα, als fünfzigster Tag (nach Ostern), zu verstehen.

Solange die massiven Grundrechtsverletzungen der Corona-Zeit nicht ehrlich und selbstkritisch aufgearbeitet werden, werden die Umfrageergebnisse für die AfD steigen, steigen, und steigen. Keine Brandmauer der Welt wird das aufhalten können. Und es ist zu 100% selbstverschuldet.

Die intellektuell redlichsten Menschen dieses Landes haben seit Jahren genau davor gewarnt. Aber der völlig selbstbesoffene, dekadente politmediale Mainstream hatte im Corona-Autoritarismus die beste Zeit seines Lebens. Es hat den autoritärsten Geistern dieses Landes extremen Spaß bereitet, endlich mal dem dummen Pöbel sagen zu dürfen, wie er zu leben hat. Nach unten auf die Arbeiterklasse treten, und vom Kapital dafür gehätschelt zu werden, war ja so süß - nicht wahr?

Das ist jetzt die Quittung. Dass aus dieser Quittung weiterhin nichts gelernt wird, kann man in jeder einzelnen Sitzung der Enquete-Kommission beobachten: Vom arrogant-bräsigen Kindergarten-Erzieherinnen-Tonfall, mit dem eine Franziska Hoppermann (CDU) Experten der „falschen Fraktion“ abkanzelt, über die widerwärtig-selbstgefälligen Belobigungen für „eigene Experten“, die Weigerung, Grafiken einzublenden. Die Straflosigkeit von offensichtlichen Lügen von Potentaten, die ihren Kopf aus der Schlinge ziehen wollen, vor Corona-Untersuchungsausschüssen auf Landesebene. Die Verweigerung eines Corona-Untersuchungsausschusses im Bundestag. Die Weigerung, Impfgeschädigte angemessen zu entschädigen. Und alles nur, um nicht ein einziges Quentchen Verantwortung für die eigene, schwere Schuld übernehmen zu müssen. Den eigenen Schatten, den eigenen inneren Diktator, nicht anschauen zu müssen.

Ich weiß, dass der Aufstieg der AfD multifaktoriell begründet ist, doch halte neben dem offensichtlichen Migrationsthema die Corona-Politik für den zweitwichtigsten Faktor. Die Menschen haben sich gemerkt, wer ihre Grundrechte in den letzten Jahren unter den Bus geworfen hat, und wer nicht. Und weil der Mainstream sich dieser einfachen Realitätsanalyse weiterhin verweigert, und lieber alle Messenger und Warner in den letzten Jahren gekillt hat, verdient er in meinen Augen auch alles, was jetzt kommt.

The wrath originates from Agamemnon taking away Briseis from Achilles.

Helen is pretty much irrelevant for the entire Iliad.

Of course there were black people in Ancient Greece. That's why Greeks had a word for them: Αἰθιοπῆες (Homeric spelling of the plural) 'Ethiopians, negroes'.

It was wrongly analyzed as 'burnt faced' in antiquity and still is in LSJ (due to the poor quality of dictionaries from the Anglosphere).

See below the current state of knowledge from Beekes' Etymolocal Dictionary of Greek. This word has been used since Mycenean times. It had long been obscured in Homeric times, which means, that people didn't analyse the elements of the compound as 'burnt-faced'. The meaning for them was 'Ethiopian', which stood for African in general.
