I ran across these words Tamika Palmer shared about her daughter, Breonna Taylor, and they broke my heart, especially these words: “She did everything right.”
That truth stays with me. Breonna should be celebrating her 33rd birthday today. Instead, her mother is carrying the weight of an unimaginable loss and the injustice of a life taken without accountability.
We are still grieving a life stolen and confronting a system that remains broken. Breonna deserved to live. She deserved to grow older. She deserved justice.

We are hearing leaders justify war while communities bear the cost.
Billions are spent on destruction, while the needs of people, healing, education, and restoration are neglected. This is not leadership. It is a failure of moral responsibility.
Scripture makes it clear. God is not aligned with violence. Faith cannot be used to justify the taking of human life or the destruction of entire communities.
We must reject rhetoric that normalizes devastation and treats those who speak for peace as if they are weak.
Peace requires courage. It requires discipline. And it requires leaders who are willing to value human life over power, profit, and control.
If we are serious about creating the Beloved Community, we must confront this reality and demand better.
Our humanity is not negotiable.

Vogue Faces Backlash for Attempting to Rename the Afro hairstyle in a recent article
The editor referred to the hairstyle as a "cloud bob" — described as a soft, airy, rounded cut with volume and natural texture. The piece featured imagery of Tracee Ellis Ross’s iconic look and styles clearly rooted in the Afro, yet made no reference to its deep cultural history.
The response from the Black community has been swift and vocal. Many see this as another instance of cultural erasure — rebranding a hairstyle long tied to Black identity, pride, and resistance with a neutral, trend-friendly name.
The Afro isn’t just a look; it’s a symbol. From the Civil Rights era to today, it represents unapologetic authenticity and natural beauty. Renaming it risks diminishing that legacy while profiting from the very aesthetic it helped create. Fashion should celebrate innovation without erasing origins. True appreciation includes acknowledgment and respect for the communities that originated these styles.
Woe to those who manipulate religion and the very name of God for their own military, economic, and political gain, dragging that which is sacred into darkness and filth. #ApostolicJourney#Cameroon https://t.co/bKteFZ3iWE
I’ll be participating in this event this Saturday afternoon at Temple University in Sangenjaya. Zoom in or Come through if you’re in town. It’s gonna be a helluva lineup!
As a survivor of the Tulsa Race Massacre, Viola Ford Fletcher bravely shared her story so that we’d never forget this painful part of our history. Michelle and I are grateful for her lifelong work to advance civil rights, and send our love to her family. https://t.co/km7RXnDKcW
7 Masks. 7 Wins.
Five years ago today, Naomi Osaka lifted the U.S. Open trophy while carrying something far heavier.
Trayvon. Philando. Breonna. Tamir. George.
Even Japan’s Sunday shows stumbled through their names in katakana.
Much Love and Respect, @naomiosaka
One of my favorite true stories from my second book, Loco in Yokohama, is now an audiovisual experience. In "A Cursed Smile," I learn to “Kuuki wo yomu” (read the atmosphere) the way I’ve learned most things in Japan—the hard way.
