A nurse from @JosephinesCincy spoke for my class this week. It was tough hearing just how awful community leaders can be, even in Cincinnati. Far too often the abuse is coming from someone in a position of power.

BLOC Ministries @BLOCMin hosts a day shelter Monday-Thursday for women in Price Hill. Being in one of Cincinnati’s most trafficked neighborhoods, they are able to make a direct impact. #UCendsslavery

Despite Ohio and specifically Cincinnati being consistently ranked as a hotspot for modern-day slavery, local law enforcement goes through NO additional training or education on the topic.

In Cincinnati, @CCSWOH helps the most vulnerable populations with family, social, and immigration services. Try filing government documents in a language you don’t understand… that is a challenge for anyone. That’s only one of the many ways they help the community!

a local org @toEndHomeless spoke for my class on what homelessness looks like in my community and how to contribute.

It costs less money and is more effective to prevent someone from losing their housing compared to re-housing after the fact.

The Office of Nationally Competitive Awards helps students apply for scholarships. Most UC undergrads receive some form of scholarship or financial aid @UC_NCA helps students finance furthering their education.
College costs more than ever, that’s a major hurdle. #ucendsslavery

I didn’t consider study abroad as an option for me as a non-traditional student. @UC_Global presented several ways I can expand my education globally!

What I find interesting is the discrepancies in the definitions of what slavery is today even just between the EU and US.

What makes me sick is these enslaved people are seen as disposable, when in the past a slave cost 10-50k, today costs $100.

70% of modern slavery is women who are forced to work without pay and cannot escape. This is happening on every continent expect Antarctica.

You can help by supporting brands with a slave free supply chain, but most important is to not contribute to the demand. #UCendslavery
