I used to think blockchain was only about processing transactions
But there is more to it
โ Execution
Processes transactions
โ Consensus
Helps nodes agree on which blocks are accepted
โ Data Propagation
Moves data across the network so other nodes can receive it
All three do different jobs but work together
While exploring @get_optimum I started paying more attention to data propagation
Because processing data is important but sharing it efficiently matters too
โ Now I have another question
What happens when a blockchain has more data to move but limited bandwidth ?
That's what I want to explore next
#Optimum
A blockchain might process more transactions
But what if the network struggles to distribute the data behind them ?
I started thinking about this while exploring @get_optimum
Processing information is only one part of the picture
The network also has to make that information available to other nodes
โ Why does data propagation matter for blockchain scalability ?
Imagine a blockchain producing blocks with more data
That data has to travel across the network so other nodes can receive it and continue their work
But nodes do not all receive information at the same time
Network delays and bandwidth limits decide how fast the data reaches them
And as the data grows distributing it gets harder
โ Bigger blocks mean more data to move
โ More pressure on network bandwidth
โ More importance placed on efficient communication between nodes
So scalability depends on two things
How many transactions a blockchain can execute and how efficiently the network can distribute the data those transactions create
While researching Optimum I started looking beyond execution and consensus
Its focus on data propagation and a decentralized memory layer points to a part of the infrastructure that is easy to miss
โ Faster processing alone will not give better scalability
The network also needs a good way to move data between nodes
That is the connection I am starting to understand
But it raises another question
If execution and data propagation are different parts of the process then where does consensus fit in ?
That is what I want to explore next
