Every now and then I see a private key or API credential leaked from a plaintext .env file.

I get it. When you’re rushing to ship, setting up a fancy secret managers and encrypted keystores feels like another annoying thing between you and writing code.

But it's 2026 bro, even if you're afraid of fancy encrypted keystores and secret managers you can use a normie tool like 1Password Environments to set this up in ~5 minutes.

At this point, there’s honestly no reason not to. Don’t rely on developer diligence.
