Rescued at night from a septic pit – Zuri is the latest 🐘 addition to our Nursery herd.
It's a miracle she was discovered, and in the nick-of-time, as the little submerged calf would not have survived the night. Once on dry land, she was quickly cleaned off and taken to our Voi stockades to rest. Next morning, we flew Zuri to Nairobi and three weeks on this chubby little miracle is finding her feet, surrounded by the love of adoring nannies.
Zuri's full story is online, where you can join her journey from day one with an adoption: https://t.co/RBNyett5B7
Bullhooks, steel-tipped weapons used to control elephants through pain & fear, are BANNED in many jurisdictions, & nearly every major circus has retired elephant acts.
Elephants deserve dignity—they are the GOP’s own proud symbol.
This should have never happened @TexasGOP.
Probably the last time this lobster sees his or her home 💔So sad … with the spread arms 😢This beautiful creature will be in a tank at a restaurant. Probably boiled alive to death. What humans cause for suffering to animals is inconceivable. #StopYourAbuse#StopYourKillings #LiveVegan let animals be free✌️
Brian May didn't just donate money to animal welfare. He personally purchased British farmland and forests with his own money ~ and converted them into permanent wildlife sanctuaries. He resigned from the RSPCA for not doing enough. He refuses to play Glastonbury over badgers. The Save Me Trust is not a side project. It is Brian May's second career.
Most rock stars put their name on a charity.
Brian May buys farmland for his.
The Save Me Trust was founded in 2009 by Brian May and conservationist Anne Brummer — originally to campaign against the possible repeal of the Hunting Act in the UK.
It has never stopped growing since.
Today Save Me Trust campaigns against fox hunting, the badger cull, factory farming, live export, trophy hunting, driven grouse shooting, the use of snares, and the captivity of orcas and other cetaceans.
But what most people don't know — is what Brian May has funded personally.
The Save Me Trust manages private land ~ purchased and protected specifically for this purpose by Brian May himself. Land that was previously wilderness-deprived commercial forest or farmland. Enhanced. Restored. Converted into wildflower meadows. Protected permanently.
The Trust operates alongside Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue ~ which rehabilitates injured British wildlife and releases them back into the wild through secure soft-release sites that Brian May's funding helps maintain.
In 2023 ~ Proud Galleries presented a £5,000 cheque to Save Me Trust ~ generated from ticket sales and book signings at Brian May's Stereoscopy Is Good For You exhibition in London. Every event Brian May does ~ feeds back into the animals.
He resigned from the RSPCA as Vice President in 2024 ~ publicly ~ because he felt even they weren't doing enough.
He refuses to perform at Glastonbury because its co-founder supports badger culling.
He has addressed Parliament directly. Led protests through London. Fronted BBC documentaries. Funded research. Bought countryside.
A man who once played to 250,000 people in Brazil —
Spends significant portions of his personal fortune buying British farmland.
To give Hedgehogs somewhere safe to sleep.
Thank you for caring for the animals @DrBrianMay 🙏.
🦞💔 Trapped, Silenced, and Waiting to Die 💔🦞These lobsters are alive, crammed in a fish counter in Dubrovnik, their claws bound, their senses intact. They will soon be boiled alive. Not for survival. Not out of necessity. But for taste. Lobsters feel pain. Science has confirmed it. Yet their suffering is often ignored, hidden behind the glass of restaurant displays and the myth that they’re “just sea creatures. ”Imagine being boiled to death, fully conscious, unable to escape or defend yourself. This isn’t cuisine, it’s cruelty. This isn’t tradition it’s torture. It’s time we stop justifying suffering for a moment on a plate. Choose compassion over cruelty. Speak up for those who cannot scream. #StopBoilingLobstersAlive #AnimalRights #CompassionOverCruelty #Dubrovnik #SeaLifeDeservesRespect #VeganForTheVoiceless #EndAnimalSufferingVideo 🙏
We know of 93 calves born in the wild to our ex-orphans. How? Because they chose to bring their newborns home.
Some make the pilgrimage from the wild within hours of giving birth. They walk back to the Reintegration Unit they grew up at, find the Keepers who raised them, and introduce the baby. Others might return a few weeks or months after. Each time, our Keepers are like proud grandparents, over the moon with happiness.
Yatta has done it four times. Melia twice. This is the moment Tumaren came back with her newest baby.
Meet our wildborn family, all alive today because we chose to rescue their orphan mothers: https://t.co/gAYG28HymE
A critically endangered Diademed sifaka hanging on for dear life—but losing grip on existence in this world.
Madagascar is stricken with extreme poverty, so hunting these large sifakas for bushmeat has soared, even in protected areas. Slash-and-burn for timber and sugar cane plantations for illegal rum is destroying their food trees.
Touchingly, they diligently patrol their territory every morning, carefully scent marking their trees to protect it—but they are defenseless against the ravages we inflict on them.
Long-lived and slow-to-reproduce, now also with high infant mortality (50%), wasting in adults and stunting in immatures as we systematically remove their means to exist.
The tiny, isolated groups in the fragmented reserves may already be genetically non-viable long-term.
It will take a miracle—or someone with enormous wealth— to save this spectacular species from extinction within my lifetime.
Legs crossed, eyes closed in bliss, Bondeni is in his happy place.
He’s earned himself a nickname: Our “Slow Drinker” takes at least twice as long as the other orphans to finish his milk bottles. So long, in fact, that there’s even a changing of the guard between Keepers looking after him. They have to be vigilant, as the other orphans tend to cluster round.
He’s seven years old so, soon, he’ll be weaned off milk as he prepares for his eventual life in the wild. Remind yourself of how far he’s come already:
