Like others have mentioned, this semester flew by! It will be bittersweet leaving many of my classes as they have taught me a lot. Leaving this class I have a newfound love and appreciation for comic books! #ENGL157

It was interesting to see Freddie slowly become like the boy he met who was paired with Snake near the middle of his journey. Throughout the story, Freddie's youthful optimism was gradually destroyed. #ENGL157

It's interesting that a comic about the Great Depression has not shown any characters reading a comic yet (to my knowledge?) #ENGL157

The complexity and depth of the characters makes it hard for me to predict the direction of the story and determine which characters are trustworthy, which makes things a lot more interesting! #ENGL157

In addition to having powerful messages, I think Fun Home was very well-written. I feel like the story slowly unraveled at a good pace and we learned something increasingly significant about her life with each chapter. #ENGL157

I find it both hilarious and intriguing that Alison, at certain moments, takes extra time to put arrows and point out different things in a panel, no matter how seemingly insignificant it is. #ENGL157

I really empathize with the difficulties Alison faced with her family. Her relationship with her parents seems greatly complicated, and this only makes things more difficult as she slowly realizes her sexuality. #ENGL157

Stories like in Persepolis and Maus are very important for us to read and be aware of the real impacts that war has on innocent people. #ENGL157

Reading Persepolis reminded me of the current conflict happening in Ukraine. In war, the civilians are the ones that are affected the most. #ENGL157

It is really saddening to know that the contents in Anja's diaries will never be known to us. There could have been so much insight into her side of the story. #ENGL157

After finishing both Maus and Maus II I feel bittersweet. While I am happy we were able to hear Vladek Spiegelman's story, we also witnessed the deterioration of mental and physical health across both books. By the end, he mixed up the names of his dead and alive sons. #ENGL157

I was definitely as frustrated as Art Spiegelman when he found out his father destroyed his mother's diaries and writings from the Holocaust #ENGL157

I loved reading Maus, I could tell that each panel, each drawing, and each word were done by hand. It amazes me how much time and effort it must have taken to finish Maus! #ENGL157

In Stuck Rubber Baby I've noticed Toland's struggle with identifying his romantic feelings. He confesses to two different people shortly after being intimate with them. As he's grown up many around him that have said certain forms of love are valid, or right, or wrong. #ENGL157

Each character in Stuck Rubber Baby has a lot of depth, with their own complex stories, perspectives and motivations. As a result it's very easy to get invested in their stories! #ENGL157

The art style of Stuck Rubber Baby is so distinctive! It has so much detail in every panel, and gives each character unique features so you can easily identify them. #ENGL157

Bitter Root brought my attention to events that I hadn't encountered during school, and I hope more comics take up what Bitter Root is trying to accomplish #ENG157
