It could always be worse. Your fav niche comic book character could get a terrible adaptation that changes literally everything about them and dumbs them down for comedy and creates a reputation that their comics are bad so you can’t even discuss their comic lore
Ultimately the core problem with comic book movies, as a genre, is that Hollywood keeps hiring people who don't like or respect comics as a medium to write and direct movies based on comics. No genre can survive or thrive in those circumstances.
