what works for me is rewarding WHILE doing a task. e.g. have that chocolate while i boot up the pc
then the reward system actually gets to turn on + the actual task is associated with an immediate reward, which my brain gets way better than the prospect of a distant future treat

One time a therapist was like “give yourself a reward for completing a task” and I was like “or I could just give myself the reward anyway and not do the annoying boring daunting task” and she was like… oh.
