The "metaverse" concept is dead ☠
We've seen a huge drop-off in hype for "metaverse" or virtual experiences since the boom that happened after 2020.
I've personally been in hundreds of these experiences, and I think this is appropriate.
Too many people are building experiences that don't add any value.
They require users to download a new app, learn a new platform, and rebuild all of their connections, but the pay-off is incredibly low.
Think about the infinite e-commerce metaverse experiences... You'll jump into a virtual shop with likely zero real people ( after downloading the app or watching a load bar. Better refill your coffee ). You'll have to learn how to control your 3D character, navigate any tutorials, find the item you want by actually walking, and then proceed to your typical checkout experience.
This is a best-case scenario, and no one wants to do this just to be a Nintendo Wii character for 30 minutes in an empty lobby.
This adds NO value to your experience, and the same is true of so many other "metaverse" applications, yet the barrier to entry is HIGH.
Then there's Passage...
Instead of competing with existing platforms for attention, Passage is a high-value add-on.
Imagine you're a content creator. You already stream to YouTube, but now you can stream directly from Passage.
You have thousands of live viewers, and some of them would pay money to be able to interact more ( ie. super chats, subscribers, etc. ).
Right below your stream is a link to join in ( maybe it's only accessible for your subscribers ), and in seconds ( no download, no apps ) they're LIVE with their favorite content creator on ANY device in ANY browser.
THIS is how you add value instead of creating more barriers.
Give people an easy option to level up their virtual experience without asking them to jump through more hoops.
If @akashnet is successful at becoming the internet of compute then it’ll be worth TRILLIONS IMO.
Here’s why:
-First off unified compute > than fragmented compute. It’s far more efficient and less compute is wasted. As compute becomes more and more scarce having an internet of compute with global scale compute resources will become insanely valuable.
This might seem far fetched but don’t underestimate what can be accomplished with strong incentives, incremental progress and compounding growth.
-The demand for compute is expected to continue growing at an exponential rate. Not just from AI, but just about everything these days needs compute. If you create more chips or faster chips, then the market just expands with better and faster products to use the new resources.
-Permissionless and decentralized networks carry a premium because of their strong property rights.
A corporate server vs the internet
A spreadsheet vs a blockchain
Loyalty points vs tokens
If you launch a website on the internet you OWN that website. You could grow that website into a trillion dollar business and nobody can take it away from you.
If you launch a Facebook business page, a single decision from Facebook could destroy your entire business and they can take it away from you at anytime.
An internet like layer of compute anyone can permissionlessly build on is actually insanely powerful.
-Compute is a scarce resource and demand is outpacing growth. @sama has even proposed a form of Universal basic income using compute instead of money.
“I wonder if the future looks something more like universal basic compute than universal basic income.”
Over the next 10 years how much of the world will run on some form of AI? How many people will have their own AI personal assistants?
We’ll see AI 911 responders, AI customer service agents, AI cashiers, AI teachers, and more.
Our farms will use AI, our movies, music, dishwashers and fridges.
Compute will be needed for EVERYTHING.
I think many are significantly underestimating the insane potential of truly permissionless compute networks like @akashnet.
I launched a Jupyter notebook on an H100 running on Akash in just a few minutes using https://t.co/U1WEK5Lxgs.
This integration is much bigger than Upbit and Bithumb listings, as it allows AI dev to experience Akash in a matter of minutes without crypto.
Brev with Akash is unstoppable.
@AltcoinPsycho people bet on the world not ending, and that's rational. if the world ends, you're not going to be able to collect from your counterparty anyway. how many chairs are you sitting on right now?
Jensen Huang, $NVDA, CEO: “Resilience matters in success. I don’t know how to teach it to you, except for: I hope suffering happens to you .. because .. greatness comes from character. And character isn’t formed out of smart people. It’s formed out of people who suffered.
Akash is heading to NVIDIA GTC next week to connect with AI developers, as well as co-sponsoring a booth with @brevdev.
Connect with the team in person: @_anil_murty_, @LeChenghiskhan, and @zacharyhorn from the Overclock Labs team will be attending.
