This is truly a great man. He has invested more in Ukraine than 185 countries combined.
Meet Howard Buffett, Warren Buffett’s middle son. He is 71 years old. He dropped out of college three times. He drinks Dr Pepper and looks for a McDonald’s wherever he travels.
Since the beginning of the war, his foundation has become the largest private donor to Ukraine: $1.4 billion.
Over four years, he has personally visited Ukraine 27 times.
In April 2022, he saw burned-out agricultural machinery and called the president of John Deere:
“How many combines are available in Europe?”
“Fifteen. All of them were supposed to go to Russia.”
“I’ll take them all.”
Then came all the available New Holland equipment in Europe. Altogether, more than 100 tractors and combines were provided to Ukrainian farmers.
He even tested demining equipment himself - on his own farm in Illinois, detonating explosives beneath rollers. When a Ukrainian deputy minister expressed doubts, Buffett told him:
“Stop counting my tractors. If necessary, I’ll blow up a thousand of them.”
Andriy Stavnitser initially asked him for $1 million for Superhumans. Buffett asked how much was needed to build the entire center.
“$14 million.”
“Okay. And what do you expect in return?”
“Nothing. Build it.”
Today, his support for Superhumans has reached $77 million, and the center has treated more than 1,700 patients.
But his largest area of spending is neither agricultural machinery nor prosthetics.
It is food: 642 million meals.
And that is only part of it:
* 344,000 windows replaced after Russian attacks;
* 9 bridges, 4 power plants, 2,500 generators, and 18 DNA laboratories;
* Much of Bucha rebuilt with his funding.
“I already have more friends in Ukraine than I do at home,” he says.
He celebrates birthdays in Ukraine, comes for Christmas, and even has a Ukrainian godson.
Friends, this is truly a great man - someone who understands that he cannot take all his money with him when he leaves this world.
I simply want to thank him and wish him well.
Whatever else one may say, this is real help from a person who had no personal obligation to Ukraine.
He simply chose to help.

Ukraine went to China to buy an attack drone.
China refused to sell.
So a Ukrainian team flew to the factory, took a pilot-training offer, and quietly photographed everything—the production line, the shelves, the cabinets.
Two years later, they build their own version for $48,000. That's $2,000 less than the Chinese original.
On 16 July, one of those drones flew 800 km into Russia and tore the tail off a Tu-95 bomber at Engels-2.
The Soviets stopped building that plane decades ago. Russia can't replace it. https://t.co/XZu3uppYDX
"Before he left for the front line in 2022, Serhii Boychuk told his wife that if captured, he didn’t want to be taken alive. A few months later, the Russians took him prisoner. Guards beat and tortured him sexually for more than two years, he said.
He recounted being raped with bottles and sticks, and having a knife pressed against his genitals. He still finds it difficult to walk. 'They wanted to psychologically break me,' said Boychuk, now 33.
Other Ukrainian former detainees described similar experiences of sexualized torture while in Russian prisoner-of-war camps. Their accounts match the findings of Ukrainian prosecutors and intelligence services and United Nations investigators, who have conducted extensive interviews with former prisoners—both soldiers and civilians—throughout the more than four-year war.
This growing body of testimony suggests that Russian sexual violence against POWs and civilian prisoners has been systematic—and condoned, even encouraged, by senior Russian officials...
Other former POWs and civilian detainees who spoke to the Journal said they were forced to stand, crouch or parade naked. Some had their genitals electrocuted. Some were raped—either with objects such as bottles or sticks, or by Russian guards.
Some of the former detainees, who were held at various sites in Russia, recalled guards telling them that they would stop Ukrainians from having children."

A new poll:
Valerii Zaluzhnyi is trusted by 70% of Ukrainians, while 20% distrust him.
Mykhailo Fedorov: 65% trust him, 11% distrust him.
General Kyrylo Budanov: 62% trust him, 23% distrust him.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy: 59% trust him, 39% distrust him.
Oleksandr Usyk, the boxing champion: 54% trust him, 31% distrust him.
General Oleksandr Syrskyi: 23% trust him, 59% distrust him.
Petro Poroshenko: 21% trust him, 75% distrust him.
Over the past week, trust in the dismissed defence minister, Fedorov, surged from 35% to 65%.
Some 72% reacted negatively to his dismissal, while only 5% supported it. Meanwhile, 55% supported dismissing General Syrskyi as commander-in-chief, and only 15% opposed it, although 19% were indifferent to the issue.
Importantly, the poll was conducted before Syrskyi’s resignation yesterday and the appointment of the hugely popular General Drapatyi in his place.
Swiss farmers planted flowers between their crops and watched pest damage drop by over half. The UK is now running the same trial across 15 farms. The reason this works is embarrassingly simple.
A Swiss study on winter wheat found that fields with wildflower strips had 40 to 53% fewer leaf beetle pests than fields without. Crop damage dropped 61%.
The mechanism is simple. Wildflowers feed hoverflies, lacewings, parasitic wasps, ladybugs, and ground beetles. Those insects eat the aphids, beetle larvae, and caterpillars that farmers would otherwise spray for. A few meters of wildflowers hosts an unpaid pest control crew that would jump at the chance to whoop some aphid ass.
In apple orchards where no insecticides had been used for five years, plots with wildflower alleyways had 9.2% damaged fruit. Control plots without flowers had 32.5%.
The UK is now running a five-year trial across 15 farms placing 6-meter flower strips through the middle of fields, not just at the edges, because the beneficial insects can't reach the center of a large field otherwise.
This works the same way in a backyard vegetable garden as it does on a commercial farm. Plant native flowering species near your tomatoes, beans, and squash. The pests still show up, but the predators show up too.

Europeans keep asking what American culture looks like.
Brother, we have a restaurant so reliable that the federal government unofficially uses it to judge hurricane damage.
It's called the Waffle House Index.
If the Waffle House is open and serving a full menu, everything is probably fine.
If they're on a limited menu, things got rough.
If the Waffle House is closed, FEMA starts paying attention.
Think about how absurd that is.
An entire nation's disaster response can be summarized as:
"Yeah, but is the Waffle House open?"
And despite the jokes, it's one of the greatest American institutions ever created.
24 hours a day.
365 days a year.
Friendly waitresses who call you "baby."
Hot coffee that somehow tastes better at 6 a.m. after a road trip.
Bacon, eggs, hash browns, waffles, and burgers cooked right in front of you. I recommend the hashbrowns smothered and covered
No reservations.
No dress code.
No pretension.
Just good food, good people, and a front-row seat to the greatest collection of characters you'll ever meet.
Sure, there's a non-zero chance you'll witness a fight.
But there's also a decent chance you'll sit next to a truck driver, a nurse getting off a night shift, a family on vacation, and a local farmer all having breakfast together.
That's America.
When a hurricane hits, Waffle House is often the first businesses to reopen.
When your flight gets delayed.
When your team loses.
When you're driving across the country.
When it's 2 a.m. and you need food and life advice from a waitress named Amanda.
Waffle House is there.
Buc-ee's is America's cathedral.
Waffle House is America's church.
Two economists just published a mathematical proof that AI will destroy the economy.
Not might. Not could. Will — if nothing changes.
The paper is called "The AI Layoff Trap." Published March 2, 2026. Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Boston University. Peer reviewed. Mathematically modeled.
The conclusion is one sentence.
"At the limit, firms automate their way to boundless productivity and zero demand."
An economy that produces everything. And sells it to nobody.
Here is how you get there.
A company fires 500 workers and replaces them with AI. A competitor fires 700 to keep up. Another fires 1,000. Every company is behaving rationally. Every company is following the incentives correctly. And every company is building a trap for itself.
Because the workers who were fired were also customers.
When they lose their jobs faster than the economy can absorb them, they stop spending. Consumer demand falls. Companies respond by cutting costs — which means automating more workers — which means less spending — which means more falling demand — which means more automation.
The loop has no natural exit.
The researchers tested every proposed solution. Universal basic income. Capital income taxes. Worker equity participation. Upskilling programs. Corporate coordination agreements.
Every single one failed in the model.
The only intervention that worked: a Pigouvian automation tax — a per-task levy charged every time a company replaces a human with AI, forcing them to price in the demand they are destroying before they pull the trigger.
No government has implemented this. No major economy is seriously discussing it.
Meanwhile the numbers are already tracking the curve. 100,000 tech workers laid off in 2025. 92,000 more in the first months of 2026. Jack Dorsey fired half of Block's workforce and said publicly: "Within the next year, the majority of companies will reach the same conclusion."
Nobody is doing anything wrong. Companies are following their incentives perfectly. That is exactly the problem.
Rational behavior. At scale. Simultaneously. With no mechanism to stop it.
Two economists built the math. The math leads to one place.

It’s the traditional playbook. Both the XVIII century partitions of Poland and the September 1939 Soviet invasion in collaboration with Nazi Germany used the same pretext.
Just at the time when the Soviet Union was murdering millions of its own citizens in the purges, the GULAG and the Holodomor.
Arbel Yehoud was sexually assaulted by terrorists almost every single day during her 482 days of captivity with Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
Romi Gonen was raped by four different men on separate occasions during her captivity in Gaza, including a “nurse” who was supposed to care for her wounds.
Sasha Troufanov said that his PIJ captor repeatedly tried to force him to perform a sexual act on himself. He was filmed while showering.
Alon Ohel was sexually abused by his captor while showering.
Guy Gilboa Dalal said his Hamas captor sexually assaulted him after a shower, holding a gun to his head and a knife to his throat.
Amit Soussana was sexually assaulted by her captor while held hostage.
Dafna Elyakim, 15, said her captor touched her constantly and told her she would stay in Gaza to marry him and have his children.
Rom Braslavski revealed that PIJ terrorists sexually abused and humiliated him.
Aviva Siegel told the UN that she saw a young girl in captivity crying after her captor followed her into the bathroom and forced her to perform oral sex.
Ilana Gritzewsky woke up on October 7 in Gaza, half-naked, her breasts exposed and her pants pulled down, surrounded by seven terrorists.
Agam Goldstein-Almog testified that she witnessed another hostage being forced at gunpoint to touch, and be touched by her captor.
These are only the stories we know. Hundreds more will never be heard, because most of Hamas's rape victims were murdered. On October 7, countless bodies were found without underwear, with mutilated genitalia, or with broken pelvises.
Several Nova survivors also testified that they heard terrorists gang-raping women and men during the massacre.
How many more testimonies do you need to believe that Hamas and PIJ used rape as a weapon of war?
Every year on May 21, Circassians commemorate the Circassian Genocide and ethnic cleansing from their ancestral lands in the 19th century, perpetrated by the Russian Empire.
Circassia, a small independent nation of about 1.5 million people on the northeastern Black Sea shore, was unfortunately bordered by the expansionist Russian Empire.
From 1763 to 1864, Circassians fought Russian armies in the Caucasus Mountains, who coveted their lands.
After the Caucasus War ended in 1864, with Russia defeating the Circassian forces, Tsar Alexander II ordered their forcible expulsion.
Russia launched a full-scale ethnic cleansing and genocide, killing around 600,000 Circassians and deporting the rest from their homeland.
Mainly Circassians (Adyghe), Ubykhs, and Abaza were targeted, but Ingush, Arshtins, Chechens, Ossetians, and Abkhaz were also heavily affected.
The Russian military systematically destroyed Circassian villages and massacred inhabitants to terrorize them into fleeing.
Modern scholars estimate around 600,000 died from massacre, starvation, and exposure, and the rest of the population was ethnically cleansed from their lands and homes into exile.
More than 95% of the Circassian population were either killed or displaced.
Today most Circassians don’t even reside in their native homeland, most reside in Turkey and also in Arab countries and Israel, making Circassians one of the first stateless peoples in modern history.
Russia still denies the Circassian genocide, as it denies any wrongdoing in its 500-year history.
Below is a map of Circassian populated areas before and after the Circassian Genocide.

I have largely remained silent in public since January 1 because I believe criticism should be constructive and focused. But this post about the Nakba is deeply disturbing, not only because of its one sided and dishonest characterization of history, but also because it attempts to delegitimize Israel as a state even before 1967.
You cannot have it both ways. You cannot argue that the “settlements”, which began after 1967 following Israel’s victory in a war against neighboring states, are the root cause of the conflict, condemn them relentlessly, and justify marches through Jewish neighborhoods in New York over so called “illegal” land sales in the West Bank, while simultaneously condemning the very founding of the State of Israel itself through a one sided narrative built on distortion and falsehoods.
It is also worth noting that while thousands of Arabs lived within Israel between 1948 and 1967, Jews were expelled from areas captured by invading Arab armies from neighboring countries. Those expelled included Jews whose families had legally owned and purchased land for hundreds of years.
Take, for example, the Tzemach synagogue in Jerusalem. In 1847, more than a hundred years earlier, followers of Chabad Lubavitch established and purchased the synagogue in Jerusalem’s Old City. During the 1948 war, the Old City fell under Jordanian control. The Jewish population was expelled, and Jews were denied access to Jerusalem, including the Tzemach Tzedek synagogue.
I really do not want to get too deep into the history because that is not my main point here. There can be disagreements and different perspectives about what happened and to whom, but the focus should be on achieving a long term peace in Israel and the region.
The tweet’s one sided narrative deepens division instead of advancing peace, coexistence, and understanding, and it should never have been posted by the mayor of New York City.

Unironisch.
