I used to talk to Flake a lot when he was a House back-bencher causing havoc on spending bills. He was considered ultraconservative. Now folks say he’s moderate. I think he’s a true conservative who has the independence of his western roots and genuine kindness and decency.
If it wasn't already clear, this week should make it obvious enough. The media chased the Catholic sex abuse story 15 years ago because it was politically useful to them. That's it. Now it no longer is, so they run cover for the Vatican. These people are disgraceful.
Trump's Evangelicals: Watch us do intellectual back flips to argue that policy trumps character in national leaders.
Papal partisans: Hold our beer.

Want to know why we have a world full of politicians afraid to get out of bed everyday and speak without first having every single word they utter vetted by consultants?
Because THIS happens. One poor word choice and you're labeled a racist for life. https://t.co/vbNCKHcSdJ
Privately, some Dems despair Gillum will lose to DeSantis. But some Republicans say it’s advantage Gillum. Really, none of us knows. Still, these concerns, relayed by a top Republican vet of Florida & national races, are instructive
Cruz is in a sticky wicket. Flogging these old pictures of O'Rourke doesn't change anybody's mind. It just reminds people what a bastard he is, and that's part of why it's so close. The independents don't know where to turn.
August 1998: Should Bill Clinton be impeached for lying under oath about Lewinsky affair? (ABC poll)
Yes 35%
No 59%
August 2018: Should Bill Clinton have been impeached for lying under oath about Lewinsky affair? (Economist/YouGov poll)
Yes 49%
No 27%
Not sure 23%
Look at Gillum compared to the rest of the candidates - it's not every day you see a correlation this clean. Black Democrats CLEARLY chose him, all across the state. Graphs and map are here: (@TB_Times) https://t.co/T4n1lbdyf4
So the Left's theory is that DeSantis, who just spent 35 seconds praising Gillum, used the word "monkey" as a verb in order to obliquely signal its meaning as a noun, reminding covert racists to vote for him -- all without alerting the media. Yeah, sure. https://t.co/mGxCGjONfJ
My baseline assumption is that people who make verbal gaffes like this aren't Secret Racists and that accusations of such are, if not bad faith, then overheated. But good Christ man if you can't play the game competently you don't deserve to win.
@_Almaqah I've been using phrase "monkey this up" or "monkey around" since I was like 9 years old. (We even nicknamed my first car in HS the "Monkeymobile" b/c whenever me and my friends got into we started acting like monkeys.) So ppl saying "dog-whistle!" don't fly w/me. Just: idiot.
