The Government must come clean over whether extremist groups were able to influence its Islamophobia definition — now repackaged as “anti-Muslim hostility”.

A Freedom of Information (FOI) request from Shadow Justice Secretary Nick Timothy has revealed that the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government deleted all responses submitted to the consultation carried out by the Working Group tasked with drafting the definition.

As Melanie Phillips writes in The Times: “When a government department starts shredding the evidence behind its decisions, it’s a fair bet that it has something to hide from the public.”

The whole process has been shrouded in secrecy. The Free Speech Union exposed that all five members of the Working Group had previously been sympathetic to the need for a definition and had troubling links to Islamist organisations, including the Muslim Council of Britain and MEND — both of which successive governments have maintained a policy of non-engagement with.

The Working Group ditched the term “Islamophobia”, following criticism from groups including the FSU, which warned that such a definition would have a chilling effect on free speech. Accusations of Islamophobia have long been used to silence legitimate criticism of Islam, and this definition risks exacerbating that problem.

Nick Timothy himself was branded an Islamophobe, reported to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards and even faced calls to resign after criticising a public Muslim prayer event in Trafalgar Square.

The Communities Department has denied that extremist groups were involved in the process and says consultation responses were deleted in line with data-protection requirements.

But that does not explain why the Government cannot disclose which organisations contributed to the consultation.

The Muslim Council of Britain and MEND have long campaigned for an Islamophobia definition. The public deserves to know whether they — or other similar organisations — were given an opportunity to influence it.

There are already laws protecting people from religious hatred and discrimination. There is no need for this definition.

If the Government is serious about tackling genuine anti-Muslim hatred, it should enforce the laws already on the statute book — not introduce what risks becoming a de facto Islamic blasphemy law.

Yet the Government is actively encouraging public bodies, private organisations and charities to adopt the definition.

The FSU has already successfully challenged South Wales Police after it attempted to implement an even more zealous version, under which officers were instructed to record comments that went beyond “legitimate” discussion of Islam.

Just 45 minutes after the then Communities Secretary, Steve Reed, unveiled the definition in the House of Commons, pro-Gaza MP Iqbal Mohamed asked whether it could be incorporated into the Nolan Principles of Public Life.

Had that happened, parliamentarians could potentially have faced sanctions for raising concerns about issues such as Islamist extremism and the grooming gangs scandal.

Phillips concludes: “Self-censorship is bad enough. But now there has been government censorship of the process by which that self-censorship is to be turned into outright submission.”

The Government must come clean about who helped shape this definition.

Just days later, her wedding video went viral on social media.

In a rage, he strangled Nazgol to death, to erase the stain off his honor !

Her wedding was her death sentence.

Lineker's Nazi Comparison Came From An Islamist-Linked Organisation

Gary Lineker has shared a post arguing that Zionism sits in the tradition of the Nazis who murdered six million Jews. That claim alone would be worth challenging. What makes this different from his usual controversies is who put it in front of him.

The video wasn't posted by Tony Greenstein, the anti-Zionist campaigner filmed making the comparison outside Kingston Crown Court. It was posted by CAGE International, an organisation Lord Gove named as Islamist extremist in the House of Commons in 2024. Lineker reposted content laundered through a designated extremist group, on the specific question of Jews and Nazism, and appears not to have known or cared where it came from.

Greenstein himself was cleared by a jury of one narrow charge, inviting support for a proscribed organisation. That verdict tells you what the jury decided about a specific criminal offence. It does not erase the evidence heard in court or the statements Greenstein has made elsewhere. During the trial, jurors heard that on October 7, 2023, he called for "full support for the Gaza ghetto uprising" and linked to a blog in which he wrote that, whatever criticisms could be made of Hamas, "we should congratulate them" on its "well-planned and audacious attack". He also said in January 2024 that he would continue to say that he supported Hamas and the Palestinian resistance.

This is the same inversion Britain's hard-left has been running for months. Take the actions of a persecuted people defending themselves and recast them as continuity with their persecutors. Zarah Sultana has called Zionism one of the greatest threats to humanity. Green Party activists have described Jews as an abomination. Now a former BBC presenter with millions of followers has lent the same argument his name, sourced through an organisation the Government itself identified as having an Islamist orientation and views of concern.

Moreover, Greenstein's claim turns the historical record on its head. If Zionism is supposedly part of the Nazi tradition, then the actual relationship between Palestinian Arab nationalism and Nazi Germany cannot simply be ignored. Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, was a leading Palestinian Arab nationalist and Muslim religious figure. He opposed Jewish immigration and Jewish national aspirations in Palestine, sought an alliance with the Axis powers, met Hitler in Berlin in 1941 and worked with Nazi Germany as a propagandist and recruiter. He also helped recruit Muslim volunteers for German military formations.

None of this is a first offence. Lineker left the BBC last year after sharing a pro-Palestinian post containing a rat emoji, the exact image Nazi propaganda used against Jews. Before that, he compared government rhetoric on small boats to Nazi Germany. Three incidents, each involving the same comparison, are not three isolated errors of judgement. They are a settled position, aired repeatedly to an audience most of them will never think to question.

Lineker says silence on these issues makes you complicit. He is right, though not in the way he means it. Silence about where his sources come from, and what the people in them have said, is its own kind of complicity. A man with his reach owes his audience more care than a reflexive share. What he has given them instead is CAGE's argument in his own voice, stripped of the label that should have stopped him at the first click.

Anna Turley is a Home Office minister.

She wants to “pay her respects to the seven people whose lives were tragically cut short” in the Middlesbrough crash this weekend.

I can’t be the only one for whom this statement jars.

Two police officers - one an army veteran - were needlessly killed while on service.

The five thugs who caused the crash - who killed PC Tom Clough and PC Matthew Blades - also died.

These criminals, with many past offences between them, were driving illegally and irresponsibly the wrong way down an A road.

We don’t want to speak ill of the dead, I understand that.

But the tragedy is the loss of those two police officers. The five thugs who killed them were responsible not only for their own demise but for the deaths of two innocent men.

We may live in an age of emoting, but we should be able to see the difference between right and wrong.

And it doesn’t feel right for a Home Office minister to put two police officers on a par with the thugs who killed them.

They had no computers, no electric typewriters, no calculators. Calculations that would take seconds today would take minutes or hours. Research that would take seconds today would take days and yet those 300-350,000 were able to do everything necessary to run a quarter of the planet. Today the British government employs 557,000 civil servants with computers and modern technology to run only Britain. I can’t help thinking that maybe we’re employing too many civil servants.

This month’s Prime Minister Andy Burnham @andyburnham has just announced he’s increasing foreign aid to 0.7% of GDP, which is £21 billion per year. Let me put that in context for you. The average amount of income tax paid per year by basic rate taxpayers in the UK is £2,700. So that means that nearly 8 million taxpayers in the UK are working all year ONLY to give their wages to foreign governments. There are 30 million basic rate taxpayers in the UK, so one in four people that you see working in restaurants or pubs, nurses, cleaners and many more are paying all of their tax to foreign countries. Countries like Pakistan that can afford nuclear weapons, to India that can afford a space programme, to China that can afford to buy the world, to Somalia that doesn’t have a government, only warlords. Etc etc etc etc etc. One in eight British basic rate taxpayers are paying all of their money not to schools in this country. Not for hospitals in this country, nor to fix the roads, nor anything whatsoever in Britain. Every penny goes abroad. Eight million people here giving their hard earned money to the British government who then give every penny away. Every single penny. So, if you’ve ever wondered why things aren’t improving in this country and wonder what happens to the money you’ve made from your toil and your sleepless nights of wondering how you’ll pay the next bill, that’s what happens to it. 8 million of you are working for foreign governments. Think about that.
