This is so beautiful, at several levels - the original Ukrainian version of Carol of the Bells, "Shchedryk," sung by Anna Reker.

Here's a piece of literature by me, suitable for seventeen-year-olds in Alberta schools, unlike -- we are told -- The Handmaid's Tale. (Sorry, kids; your Minister of Education thinks you are stupid babies.)
John and Mary were both very, very good children. They never picked their noses or had bowel movements or zits. They grew up and married each other, and produced five perfect children without ever having sex. Although they claimed to be Christian, they paid no attention to what Jesus actually said about the poor and the Good Samaritan and forgiving your enemies and such; instead, they practised selfish rapacious capitalism, because they worshipped Ayn Rand. (Though they ignored the scene in The Fountainhead where “welcomed rape” is advocated, because who wants to dwell, and also that would have involved sex and would de facto be pornographic. Well, it kind of is, eh?) Oh, and they never died, because who wants to dwell on, you know, death and corpses and yuk? So they lived happily ever after. But while they were doing that The Handmaids Tale came true and Danielle Smith found herself with a nice new blue dress but no job. The end.
This is 15 minutes that you just don't want to miss.
@charlesadler's recent address to the Senate is a history lesson, a warning, an apology and a love letter to Canada that every Canadian should take th time to listen to.

I thought that this Bill was performative nonsense but then I see that it gives the LGiC the power to change the status of provincial parks, ecological reserves wilderness areas etc.

In the spirit of the election, and this spooky Halloween season, let’s take a look at a scary and extensive list of SKParty failures, lies, blunders, & scandals. 🧵
1. SKParty MLA Gary Grewal collected $731K in taxpayer money for inflated room rates contracted by SKParty gov’t.
Albertans won't have access to Legal Aid under Danielle Smith, and this is a huge deal.
People who need help with things like family law, domestic violence, and child welfare won't be able to get representation during some of the toughest times in their lives. Legal organizations are calling this a disaster waiting to happen.
The Law Society of Alberta and Legal Aid have tried their best to renew the funding agreement, but Danielle Smith and the UCP aren't willing to negotiate fairly. My colleague Irfan Sabir has been calling on the UCP to fix their mess for years, and they refuse to help the Albertans relying on this system.
It's critical that everyone, regardless of their financial situation, has access to the justice system. This will throw everything into chaos and jeopardize these vital services.
Honestly, it's shocking that the UCP thinks it's okay to leave Albertans who are escaping abuse without any support. It's just not right.
