If they’re marketing Zcash as being “better than Bitcoin,” “probably” isn’t good enough. That’s asking users to trust, not verify.

Then they reassure you: “Oh don’t worry, there’s a way to prove with 100% certainty”

But what they conveniently leave out is how ugly and impractical "proving it" actually is. Proving it would require activating a massive consensus change that essentially triggers an all-out bank run on the shielded pool. If the bug was exploited, innocent users would end up getting rugged of their Zcash because the attacker would almost certainly withdraw all their assets first and drain out the pool before anyone else could react. It's a really nasty situation.
