Quite a letter from @OBR_UK
- says unaware of 2024-25 spending pressures until this week (i.e not when it made its March forecast)
- points out it would be one of biggest in-year overspends on record
- launches review of "adequacy" of what HMT told it before the March Budget...

Cathy Newman, "Calling them friends and fellow Europeans, Keir Starmer has welcomed more than 40 European countries at a summit at Blenheim palace"
"He told them he wants to set a new path on illegal migration.. And with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in attendance, he also took the chance to double down on the support for Ukraine"
Gary Gibbon, "46 national leaders.. This gathering all of Europes leaders, EU and non-EU.. This was hospitality that Rishi Sunak was happy to skip for his early election"
"For Keir Starmer, the perfect occasion to project the change of management.. And to tell Europe that he wants Britain's relations to be more civil"
Keir Starmer, "Under my leadership, Britain will be a friend and partner, ready to work with you.. Not part of the EU but very much part of Europe"
Gary Gibbon, "Keir Starmer said his hopes for a reset with relations with Europe were warmly welcomed.. The consideration about what that really could mean has barely started"
A nice start, but #RejoinEU is the way forward
I have finally decided to get on X.
There is a new era in politics and much of importance to be debated, particularly in respect of our relationship with our European neighbours.
Please do follow.
Today I had my first face-to-face meeting with @MarosSefcovic in Brussels.
As we work to reset the 🇬🇧🇪🇺relationship, we discussed strengthening security and economic co-operation - to create a safer and more prosperous Europe. (1/2)
A constructive meeting with Minister @NickTorfaen. Discussed how we can advance our joint agenda. Referred to the implementation of our existing agreements, the cornerstone of 🇪🇺🇬🇧 relations.
We're allies, sharing both values and challenges. Looking forward to our cooperation.
Just arrived at Stockholm airport. While EU citizens sailed past, I was asked the purpose of my visit, how long I’m staying, and several follow-up questions. I found myself apologising for the disastrous mistake of Brexit.
We need to rejoin the EU.

Zoe Gardner(Migration Expert): "If we don't give people safe routes in order to reach us, then they will continue to die{in the Channel} & Keir Starmer & Yvette Cooper know that... we all know that..."
Yesterday, it was my privilege to meet with British Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer and extend my warmest congratulations on his historic victory.
We reaffirmed the special relationship between our nations and our shared commitment to defending democracy around the world.
Just so different, so different !👇 from the last 10 yrs of endless lies about Europe, calling its leaders "foes", jingoistic one-upmanship, scapegoating the UK's problems on it and its "foreign" courts, making trade and travel as hard as possible
A new start, Dieu merci 🇬🇧🇫🇷🇪🇺
Avec le nouveau Premier ministre du Royaume-Uni Keir Starmer. Aujourd'hui au sommet de l'OTAN, la semaine prochaine au sommet de la Communauté politique européenne : notre travail en commun a déjà bien commencé !
@MarkSeddon1962 You’re not ignorant about British politics Mark so you obviously know that every department has a Lords minister who, until we abolish the House of Lords, is unelected. So come at me with the truth-you don’t like my politics or that of the @UKLabour Govt elected by a landslide
Delighted to welcome the Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer to Belfast. The UK Government is committed to a new relationship with all the Northern Ireland political parties in a shared endeavour to build a better future for the people of Northern Ireland.
