In Cbc article "Domestic violence up as economy down" Dan Meades said "there's no doubt that financial problems at home increase the likelihood of domestic violence". thus showing a direct correlation between the economy and intersectional femminism/ gender violence. #gs1000w2081

with Sunday having been international women's day, it is important for us to realize that even though we are improving as a country, gender inequality still occurs in the workplace #gs1000w2081
after comparing the relationships between income and health in topics such as smoking and copd this week and the "on the plate" comic it is clear that the quality of life you have has a direct relation to your health #gs1000w2081
@emmacad00 completely agree! mental and physical health for those experiencing menstrual cycles needs to be validated better and not thrown to the side with a sexist point of view
@atrimm3 Totally agree! Our society as it grows and evolves in gender inclusivity and awareness; awareness around body ideals and gender need to be more vocalized and made aware as well.
Killing us softly 4 really hits home growing up a female in todays society, girls bodies, no matter the type, should be celebrated and society needs to be more aware of how advertising relays "beauty" #gs1000w2081
@Chenshuo0814 Totally agree! I believe everyone needs to become better educated in racism and its impacts. As a country and individuals we are learning but still need to do better.
With this weeks topic on colonialism and racism I think its important to touch on todays current events on how these topics still impact our country. https://t.co/nS5MZt3uFx #gs1000w2081
I found this weeks ted talk by Zayid very enlightening. Those who are different do deserve to have a voice and live a successful and happy life while embracing being different. #gs1000w2081
@Chenshuo0814 I totally agree Chen! "Normal" is a dangerous term especially in youth as every identity is valid and true. It is when we begin alienating those who are different that we are hurting societies growth.
Parents need to be in support of their children's feelings and identity. Often times children know who they truly are and having the support of family can allow for a safe and happy childhood. Respect and inclusivity should be societies goal. #gs1000w2081

@blakemi49185204 Great point Blake, we need to be better when it comes to validating those who do not fit the past old school and frankly dated views of gender and a step in the right direction is education on pronoun use. everyone has the right to feel safe and validated.
It is disappointing to know that many people in society still strongly believe in gender binary and refuse to accept people for who they truly are and identify with. In todayβs society we need to be more open and inclusive of all walks of life. #gs1000w2081
@JasmineOQuinn1 this was a new term for me as well but the topics it encompasses relates to my field in anthropology as well particularly cultural studies. It is interesting to now have a term to bring these topics that so often intertwine under one place.
βItβs not merely that some days I experience racism and some days I experience sexism,β she said. βRather it is that oppression shows up differently for me than it does for black men and white women.β

@HilaryHennesse4 This is a great quote Hilary. I completely agree that we must do better as a society to come together to produce change and that rights should be equal for all no matter your sex, religion, etc. Emma Watson is one of my favourite feminist activists.
#GS1000W2081 Looking forward to this Gender studies course. As a female coach in a predominantly male coached sport myself, this quote has always hit home to me.
