Current official theories are that the pilot identified a visual of the wrong plane and did not in fact see the American eagle flight.

@ryanstrug @BWyvern_ @vanillaopinions It doesn’t have to measure all of it to get an average temperature. Also, they’re not measuring convection. They used infrared sensors, which are capable of assessing temperature over quite large distances.
