"This is an important visit that is aimed at normalising our relations[...] we had challenges in our past but there were engagements at the highest level between the two heads of states and we had agreed since last year that we will have this ministerial visit in Pretoria to discuss the challenges on how to normalise our relations"

In Cape Town, South Africa, Minister @onduhungirehe
participated in the launch of the Rwanda Energy Compact at the Africa Energy Forum.
In his remarks, he highlighted Rwanda’s remarkable energy journey—from just 43MW and 1% electricity access in 1994 to over 84% access today.
He also reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to achieving universal energy access by 2030 through a fully costed $3 billion plan to double generation capacity and mobilize $1 billion in private investment.
Hon. Minister of Trade and Industry, @AKajangwe on Government's priorities for strengthening Rwanda's balance of payments through export growth.
"#Rwanda’s export growth strategy seeks to strengthen economic resilience by expanding and diversifying exports while reducing reliance on imports. Through targeted investment in priority sectors, greater access to regional and global markets, and a supportive environment for private sector growth, the country aims to foster sustainable and competitive economic development."

“Air connectivity, at its core, is about Africa’s ability to act collectively and obtain concrete results. For decades, we have spoken about integration, trade and free movement. We know what has to be done. We just have to do it.” President Kagame | African Air Transport Convention & Expo 2026
“A single market works best, when rules and standards are predictable and consistent across jurisdictions. The institutions mandated to lead this work already exist, and they deserve our support. The same principle applies to visa policies.
In Rwanda, we removed this particular barrier because we wanted people to visit, connect and discover opportunities. And as we know, it is just the right thing to do. We saw stronger business activity, increased tourism, and expanded air links.
Experience, therefore, shows us that openness and cooperation are powerful drivers of development. No single region has unlocked its potential, while remaining fragmented. Air connectivity opens immense opportunities and possibilities.” President Kagame | African Air Transport Convention & Expo 2026

Thank you President @paulkagame for a warm and positive meeting.
We look forward to working with Rwanda to advance Commonwealth reforms, including drawing on Rwanda’s best practices in trade and investment to drive the new Commonwealth trade and investment agenda for shared prosperity.
We appreciate the partnership with Rwanda for a successful summit of our leaders in November and for a Commonwealth that works for all.

“This course was designed to enhance your ability to navigate complex and sometimes, seemingly impossible situations. There are, however, certain qualities that it cannot give you that you must personally cultivate.
The first is courage. You will not always have guarantees, and for some, this can create paralysis. Courage is what enables a leader to act decisively despite uncertainty and competing pressures.
The second is judgement. As your responsibilities increase, so will the consequences of your decisions. Good judgement is developed through experience, collaboration and the humility to learn from mistakes and adjust course when necessary.
The third is purpose, which comes from knowing precisely what you are fighting for. For Rwanda, that purpose is anchored in protecting our people and sovereignty, while advancing the continued transformation of our country.” President Kagame
President Kagame, Commander-in-Chief of the Rwanda Defence Force, presided over the graduation of 108 Senior Officers from Rwanda and across the continent and beyond, who formed the 14th intake of the Senior Command and Staff Course, at RDF Command and Staff College, Nyakinama.
The 2026/27 budget proposal, presented to Parliament today, reinforces Rwanda's commitment to strategic development. Human Rights Watch on Rwanda is a 30-year pattern: anonymous claims, no site visits or forensics, sanctions first and investigation later. Richard Johnson’s warning on @HRW still stands: https://t.co/cSTjTnzoWI
On their latest report, @HRW cannot claim accountability while ignoring its own findings: Kinshasa arms, finances and coordinates with FDLR, Wazalendo, foreign mercenaries and the Burundian army, all dangerous armed forces/militias at the core of the conflict & human suffering in eastern DRC.
It should be clear that the RDF is not AFC/M23. Any serious investigation requires impartiality, access, forensic rigor, due process, and not conclusions announced in advance, or bombastic calls for sanctions.
The path forward remains the Washington Accords with balanced mediation, in pursuit of sustainable security, dialogue, accountability and regional cooperation.
