Zimbabwean woman Pummy Hadebe has won a major UK transport award after helping deliver a baby on her bus in Glasgow.
She was driving a Service 23 bus for McGill’s Buses on 29 November 2025 when a pregnant passenger went into labour on the way to hospital with her partner.
Realising the baby was about to come, Pummy stopped, called emergency services and helped with the delivery before paramedics got there. She then put the newborn on the mother’s stomach and used a towel from her own bag to keep the baby warm.
Mother and baby were later taken to hospital and said to be fine. On 1 October 2026, Pummy was named Frontline Employee/Community Champion of the Year at the UK National Transport Awards in London.

This generation is just surviving with little to no chance of actually thriving. Either you're unemployed or underpaid. Can't afford marriage, can't afford children, can't afford assets, can't afford to retire the parents.
They call us tribalists for maintaining our culture. Instead of being inspired to maintain theirs, they rather hate on us.
Being proud of us doesn't mean we think less of you.
Is this real? If it is, thank you @Julius_S_Malema for raising awareness. Matabeleland and parts of Midlands were denied the opportunity to enjoy independence as the Zanu led government used arms of the state to unleash terror on them. #Gukurahundi

Yesterday I had a constructive meeting with Royalty - HRH Bulelani Khumalo Lobengula, the great (x 5) grandson of King Lobengula in @CityofBulawayo .
We discussed a wide range of new projects which have been proposed which if implemented will boost tourism and Bulawayo’s economy. We will do everything possible as a Council to support these proposals.
When a man with vision has money, he empowers the whole community
Sadio Mane has invested about 20 million dollars into an agricultural project, focused on mango production
The mango production will see about 1000 direct jobs created, training center and processing plant built, more mango trees planted
In his words "I want the young people of my region to be empowered"
Africa can only grow with industrialization, that's how all the jobless youths will be absorbed into being productive members of society
Things we love to see, truly inspirational
🚨 UK–ZIMBABWE ROAD JOURNEY | UPDATE
Bulawayo-born Nkosilathi Mathe has arrived in South Africa, bringing him closer to the final leg of his epic overland journey from the United Kingdom to Zimbabwe.
Driving his Nissan X-Trail, Mathe began the thousands-of-kilometres cross-continental journey on 4 July. His next major destination is Bulawayo, where he is expected to complete the remarkable road trip.
There is no such thing as a “university of the people who speak isiZulu” in the first place. Our universities are South African institutions, open to all South Africans regardless of language, ethnicity or province.
What she is expressing is a dangerous desire to Balkanise South Africa along ethnic and linguistic lines - to turn our diversity into separate political and territorial enclaves.
Colonialism and apartheid tried precisely this through segregation, Bantustans and the deliberate manipulation of ethnic identities to divide and rule. They failed to permanently fracture South Africa, and those attempting to revive the same poisonous politics of ethnic division will fail again.
We must defend a united, non-racial and democratic South Africa in which isiZulu, isiXhosa, Sesotho, Tshivenda, Afrikaans and every other language belong equally to all of us. No ethnic group owns a province, a university or any part of this country.
South Africa belongs to all who live in it. We will not allow it to be Balkanised.
