Squirrels, pigeons, peacocks,parrots every creature on the grounds was fed before his own lunch or dinner. He kept that order for his entire term.
Once he was late for a meeting. His aide Chinappa said, “Sir, you eat. I will feed them.”
Kalam refused.
“In life we have to defend even the smallest good habits. If I skip this today because I am in a hurry, I will skip it again tomorrow. If time is short, I will eat less. But I will not break the habit.”
The animals were served. They began to eat. Only then did he take his lunch and leave.
