Please respond: Do political ads Change minds? Would someone see an ad for Ken Paxton or Troy Jackson, and decide to vote for Talarico or Collins? I’m curious what you—the group you—think.
@Riffraff3232 Well he sure as hell wouldn't still be in Lynchburg
If you're saying that wasn't supposed to be a shot, then you're playing little red riding hood
Humans don't develop political beliefs to discover what's true....they develop beliefs that reflect and help satisfy their emotional needs, and then use reasoning to justify them
Put this on my tombstone
cell phones aren’t druglike, they’re carlike. even if you consciously want to opt out, you can’t, because everyone expects you to have and use one to interact with society. i cannot even use the laundry machines in my building without being forced to use the laundry app.
Nobody takes it seriously. It's a cancer that no one takes seriously
Just like cigarettes permeated society for 50 years(?) after it was proven to lead directly to cancer
Cell phone addiction is an absolute thermonuke to the brain and nobody 'takes it seriously' because it is not clear that there is any solution in a world where the revealed preference of everyone across the globe, regardless of income, race, age, any factor whatsoever, would rather be on their phone than do *anything* else. Deciding "I use this too much" and meaningfully altering one's behaviour doesn't seem to have much success for any of the very small minority of people with the sentience or self-reflection to realize how bad it is. Most people seem to think of it as an unproductive habit at most, rather than an addiction. Any attempt to speak seriously about this is met with derision, accusations of pretentiousness. There is no real solution to it. The future of human cognition fifty years down the line is horrifying if you stop and think about it for even a moment.
Glen Powell is smart to avoid politics because people who are terminally online and obsessed with politics are the unhappiest people on Earth, and their only brief joy comes from making others miserable like them. Trust me, I speak from experience as an online, political person.
Finally an actor that realizes that no one gives a shit about their political opinions
If an actor has changed your mind on any political opinion, you are a complete moron
Glen Powell is staying quiet on politics in interviews because "over time I realized that politics divide people."
"People trying to prove their point — for me, it’s the worst version of a conversation. I genuinely do not like the discourse. It’s not as healthy as it once was. [Engaging in politics] is not presently possible. I applaud people for jumping into those things and fighting for what they believe in. If I were a political person, I would be talking about it. For me, my calling is elsewhere.” (via Esquire)

Maybe this is a stupid question but why don't dinner parties put everyone's chair on a conveyor belt so they can talk to different people throughout the evening?
