As an informal research project to gain experience doing AI interpretability, I investigated the representations of RNNs trained on base addition. It turns out that they represent numbers along a helix! Here's the embeddings for a 1-layer RNN trained to add in base 10. 🧵

@randallmbriggs That looks like a Qualtec LTE module (EX25?) which usually has built in GNSS. Also it looks like there is no GPS antenna so that feature is likely not used
