@RutgersAltRoute A5: Providing feedback quickly is a key. This week's materials also point out that praising effort instead of intelligence or talent helps foster a growth mindset. #TeacherEd#GrowthMindset
@RutgersAltRoute A4: My biggest challenge with assessment is dealing with high school students who just don't want to do the work. I find it hard to assess when there isn't much to assess.
@RutgersAltRoute A3: From the readings this week, I liked the ideas of leading with "I know you guys can do this" or some similar positive message. Frame the assignment as something that shows I'm confident in my students' abilities. #TeacherEd#GrowthMindset
@RutgersAltRoute A2: As a Technology Teacher, I have taught that most advancements in technology have occurred after failure. So I encourage students to try new things, even if they fail. #TeacherEd#GrowthMindset
@RutgersAltRoute A1: Based on what I read leading up to this chat, its seems like the mindset thing is settled into a child by 3rd grade. I teach high school, which means that by the time I see a kid, they might have long been settled into a fixed mindset. #TeacherEd#GrowthMindset
@RutgersAltRoute A5 #TeacherEd#SpEd I think a lot of fine-tuning can come on a case-by-case basis. As the school year progresses, a teacher should start to figure out what strategies work best and what doesn't with each kid.
@RutgersAltRoute A4 #TeacherEd#SpEd I've tried to empower those students the same way I do with any student: By encouraging questions, creating a safe space, and emphasizing that there is no such thing as a dumb question.
@RutgersAltRoute A3 #TeacherEd#SpEd I feel that the best way to create opportunities for those students to succeed is to make the subject matter fun and accessible to them.
@RutgersAltRoute A2 For the record, I am very much not an expert at social media, so I have no idea if I'm doing this right. #TeacherEd#SpEd The most common accommodation I have given is allowing more time to complete a project
@RutgersAltRoute I'm a first-year teacher, and I already find that it takes me a loooooong time to come up with lesson plans. My biggest challenge in dealing with students with IEPs or 504 is to find even more time to come up with alternate plans for those students.
@bebopbatman@GNewcombe0307@mktishey@RutgersAltRoute Hi. I don't think I'd use the phrase "no big deal", because test are at least a medium deal. :D But I will agree that it's not the end of the world. There will always be more tests, so any one test - even a couple - can be bombed, and it's still ok #TeacherEd#testanxiety
Q: How would you describe a teacher who is aware of learning differences in their classroom?
A: Simply put, I would describe that teacher as one who is doing their job correctly.
