I recently travelled to Enugu, where we intervened in the case of two brothers who were arrested following allegations of breaking and entry made by a Pastor.

According to the allegation, the brothers were accused of assisting the Pastor’s estranged wife in moving some of her properties. After engaging with the Police authorities in Enugu State, the two brothers were eventually released.

However, the matter has now taken another turn.

The Pastor has reportedly gone to Abuja and submitted a petition against his estranged wife and three other persons over essentially the same allegations. They have now spent days in detention without bail.

Today, I am heading to Abuja to engage with the relevant authorities and ensure that this matter is properly reviewed, that due process is followed, and that nobody is unlawfully deprived of their liberty.

We are not against investigation. If anyone has committed an offence, the law should take its course. But allegations must be properly investigated, and the rights of every person involved must be respected.

I will be engaging with the officers at FCID @PoliceNG @PoliceNG_CRU to ensure that the facts of this matter are properly examined.

Justice must be about the truth, not who can write the strongest petition and who has more money.
