We've been married for 7 years and have 3 children. He has a decent job, but is extremely secretive about our finances, especially around his family. Whenever his relatives announce their visits, his behaviour changes drastically. He parks our car at a neighbour's house, hides the TV remote, and sometimes even asks me not to mention our recent purchases. If anyone asks about the children's school, he claims things are "very difficult" and that we are barely managing. At first, I found this behaviour amusing, but now it has become embarrassing. Last Christmas, his sister visited and he turned off the TV; told the children not to ask for meat. He says he's protecting us because when his relatives see that we are doing well, requests for money will start coming in. While I understand his concerns, I feel as if we are living a double life..
