Humanity, created by God in all its grandeur, is today facing a pivotal choice: either to construct a new Tower of Babel or to build the city in which God and humanity dwell together. In Jesus Christ, this humanity in its grandeur becomes the Way, the Truth and the Life, opening the path for each of us to grow toward fullness. #MagnificaHumanitas

Robert Redford. I loved him, and admired him—for his friendship, his fiery independence, and the way he used any platform he had to help make the world better, fairer, brighter for others.
6th street in Austin, 1866. You're looking east from 200 east 6th toward what is now I-35. Of course, when this photo was taken it was called "Pecan Street." The man on horseback is William Oliphant, who opened a jewelry store on the street in 1852. The child with him is named Will Carter. The Missouri House, the residence of Michael Zilker, is in the background. On the left you see the England and Hannig cabinetmaking shop. That shop was owned by Joseph W. Hannig, the husband of Susanna Dickinson, who survived the Battle of the Alamo along with her daughter and who was sent by Santa Anna to report the news of the Mexican victory to Sam Houston and the Texian Army, then at Gonzales.
Yet another fabulous historical photo from our friends at the @AustinPublicLib .
2005: It was a dark and stormy night . . .
@UTAustin's Jester Center 20 years ago. Opened in 1969, it housed about 3,000 students, was divided into two voting precincts, and, until the late 1980s, had its own zip code (78784).
@JennyJohnsonHi5 Still think of this whenever I think of Timecop (which also stars the great Bruce McGill - UT-Austin grad and Animal House’s D-Day, among other great roles)

The reason Jerry West is the logo for the NBA is because he embodied the qualities we admire in our best athletes: skills as a player, dedication as a teammate, and integrity as a person. He was my coach, and my advisor, but mostly he was my friend. Today, a part of the continent has broken off and we are all left a little smaller. I know I am. I especially want to send my deepest condolences to Karen and the entire West family.
