Humans don’t necessarily do things for logical reasons. Reasons are just things you make up after you do a thing that you really only did because no one else did it before.
Humans do things because they can. And like all of these advances, we’ll all use most of them. And in two generations, only old people will know it was any different.
But of a conundrum we put ourselves in, isn’t it.
Hey @airbnb,
Regarding your new house rules update: If I have guests for two weeks and the hot tub requires a quick daily check like this, is my only option to close the hot tub or turn it off for stays longer than a day or two?
@LeahLibresco@daveweigel “Personal Responsibility! Monitor children’s’ viewing habits! Don’t let them watch!”
…which is all great until a generation of children grows up with zero interest in baseball.
We usually don’t notice the destructive parts of cultural change until it’s too late.
Closing the (nonexistent) intoxication loophole in rape law will all but guarantee life-ruining allegations of rape against people who do no wrong.
Urgently must-read essay.

@wil_da_beast630 When people live the bulk of their lives online, they probably just end up believing the reductive arguments of the accounts and influencers they’ve become addicted to.
Chris Rock just nailed one of the biggest problems with wokeness.
Helping people who feel marginalized is good. He says so himself. The trouble starts when a good cause becomes an institution.
The first few witches were real. Then you open a witch office. Now there are salaries, budgets and pensions to justify, and the office needs a steady supply of witches to keep existing.
That’s the trap. Once a cause becomes a career, solving the problem means losing your job. So the problem never gets solved. It just keeps getting redefined.
A system built to find wrongdoing will keep finding it, whether it’s there or not.
@HistoryBoomer@RobGeorge “It’s because he got involved with politics [and because I choose my friends and the famous people I like based on whether or not they support the same politicians I do (and for reasons I deem acceptable).]”
Went to a range in #Reno last night. $130 for 2 people:
1 lane.
2 targets.
100 rounds.
2 ear protection.
1 eye protection.
Great experience, except for the #tip option at checkout. Are we seriously supposed be #tipping the gun range guys now?
Greed is consuming everyone.
Dear friends, during some recent medical examinations, the doctors found a small, localized nodule in my lung. It was detected at a very early stage and is well-localized. The doctors believe that it is best to intervene, so, following their advice, I have decided to undergo surgery to remove it. The operation is already scheduled to take place in the coming days. I thank you for your spiritual closeness and entrust myself to your prayers.
My family in Canada is paying approx $1.33/liter for gas today ($1.90 🇨🇦). That’s about $5.05/gallon (🇺🇸).
Today in California, I paid a $1 more.
Weird how @GavinNewsom disses other states for price increases. Can he hear himself.
@AP For people trapped in jihadist cult, I feel like the death penalty is not the deterrent we think it is.
Not saying we shouldn’t execute the guy - just that I think the death penalty is considered more of a reward than a punishment to these people.
Really??? Is @sophaller truly the person who started a fight over an issue that “has nothing to do with basketball”?
Or did she just say something completely normal, like “Men shouldn’t play women’s basketball.”?
The Indiana Fever have become a backdrop for a culture war that has little to do with basketball.
Sophie Cunningham has attracted a crowd of “agitators” who see her as a way back into the spotlight.
