I use that word advisedly. @DominicRaab and @jcartlidgemp know that this is untrue. And they keep saying it, in the hope that the public will be taken in.
Cynical, dishonest and shameful.

It is regrettable that it has come to this.
But the government’s continued defunding of the criminal justice system, and refusal to engage with those whose goodwill keeps the courts running, has left us with no choice.
Criminal barristers are walking out.

The government is threatening to force criminal solicitors and barristers to perform unpaid “extended hours” to address the court backlog caused by the government’s own mismanagement.
Our hours literally cannot be extended further than they already are.
Our Covid-related absences are growing exponentially. Within a week or two they’ll be the highest ever. Covid rules end 19 July. Self-isolation rules not eased until 16 August. This will be a shit show for business.
