I'm lucky enough to be one of the first in Britain to get ahold of John Peterson's new book!
The American revolutions are a topic I know very little about, and have struggled to know where to start for a decent analysis.
I've only read the introduction, but I've loving it so far!
@KTownSocialist@Himedanshi2199@KeasarNor In fact, when organised factions are present is when the slate system really shines. It allows factions to negotiate representation, and select themselves who will represent them
Lenin describes the process briefly in his report on the Unity conference

@KTownSocialist@Himedanshi2199@KeasarNor 2) Jack from Manchester has very little ability to evaluate whether John from Aberdeen is more ore less deserving of membership of the CC than Jane from Exeter. I probably have never met them. This means only the outgoing CC (or factional leaders) are well placed to build a slate
@KTownSocialist@Himedanshi2199@KeasarNor This isn't quite true. Both the 2nd congress and the unity congress of the RSDLP (granted, not quite the Bolshevik party) elected the CC via a slate system.
I actually found a reference from the unity conference minutes confirming this https://t.co/rTkq13bhlq
@Himedanshi2199@KeasarNor 1) Branches have complete freedom over who they elect as delegates
2) The CC is a team, they should be elected as a team, not as individuals. And anyone is free to propose their own slate, or propose changes to the outgoing CC's slate
@VK_Vpered@ATrueLeveller Was this not what Lenin and Trotsky did to Marxist theory? This is how the best Marxists tend to operate, by developing Marxist theory further, by applying it to new circumstances with new information, instead of trying to re-invent it
PAKISTAN: Seven members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Awami Action Committee (AAC) have been arbitrarily detained for over 45 days under Pakistan’s anti-terrorism law, solely for peacefully exercising their rights to assembly and expression. The charges stem from allegations that 13 AAC members made “anti-state” speeches during an Iftar dinner on 8 March and made plans to arrange a protest, all rights guaranteed under international human rights law.
Among those detained is 70-year-old lawyer and AAC chairperson Ehsan Ali, whose continued detention has raised grave concerns regarding his right to life and due process. Despite applications filed by his lawyers requesting hospitalization, Ehsan was denied appropriate medical care until his condition drastically worsened. He was transferred to the hospital only after developing pneumonia and losing consciousness while in police custody. Ehsan has been under police guard at District Head quarter Hospital Gilgit along with two other AAC activists, Ibrar Bahoro and Hasnain Ramal. His lawyers have raised concerns that given his underlying heart condition and current health, the care being provided at the current medical facility is inadequate.
In addition, other ACC activists named in the case have been forced to curtail their right to freedom of movement, association, peaceful assembly and freedom of expression out of fear of arrest and remain unable to campaign for the upcoming elections in Gilgit-Baltistan on 7 June 2026.
Amnesty International calls on the Pakistani authorities to immediately release all detained AAC activists and drop all charges against them related to their peaceful activism. Pending release, the authorities must ensure that immediate access to adequate healthcare is provided to all detainees. Arbitrary detentions of ACC members must not be used to curtail the rights guaranteed under international human rights law, including in the lead up to, during and after the elections in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Comrades in Manchester were held in police kettles for hours yesterday while Britain First were able to continue their hate march around the city centre. Here’s what we had to say once we broke out of their kettle!
@omgkringeh@jsp1747@LeftieStats@johnbestwest You're absolutely right that we're both small, tiny I would say. The tasks of the RCI, even with our ~10k members, is still focussed finding and preparing it's initial cadre
@omgkringeh@jsp1747@LeftieStats@johnbestwest Whereas the RCI has 4 sections with ~1000 members, about half a dozen with ~500.
Btw I'm not saying this is (necessarily) a good or a bad thing, just that it's a curious difference
