Kigali is a place of firsts! It is here that @AfCFTA instruments were opened for ratification. It is here that continental leaders convened this week 2 set the tone for the #AfricaReset from pan Africanism to Meta Africanism. I am so proud of the work @AfDB_Group has done with @ASG_Africa in birthing this movement. Top of mind for me as I get back to work is the following:
What is often missing in regional integration conversations is how Africa can leverage what others don't have:

→ The world's youngest, fastest-growing population
→ The #AfCFTA – the largest free trade area by country participation since the WTO
→ Untapped natural resources that, processed regionally, create exponentially more value
→ Digital leapfrogging opportunities in trade facilitation and financial integration
→ A generation of entrepreneurs building pan-African businesses on the continent

Regional integration is therefore Africa's competitive advantage.

Numbers tell a story. 📊 Did you know that in the past decade alone, @AfDB_group has invested over US$55 Billion in regional integration and trade facilitating infrastructure such as the construction of ➡18,000+ km of roads, ➡ 27 border crossings, ➡ 16 bridges, over 25 regional corridors across the continent and more?

What this shows is how the Bank not only provides the infrastructure, finance, and coordination, but makes Africa’s regional integration quest operationally viable. The projects are economic arteries enabling not just trade, movement of people and goods, but opportunity.

Every road, bridge, and border crossing modernization is an investment enabling the acceleration of Africa’s integration quest. This is not aspirational. It is #Africaworking and hastening its #RegionalIntegration #AfDB

At the IMF–World Bank African Caucus in Banjul on 6 July, @AfDBPresident, Dr Sidi Ould Tah, referred to the increase in the @AfDB_Group's stake in the African Trade & Investment Development Insurance - ATIDI (@ATI_ACA), from 3% to 14% (US$125 million).

“ATIDI is an indispensable tool for mobilising additional resources for the benefit of African economic actors,” he said.

Dr Sidi Ould Tah, has called on African states to join ATIDI, and on member countries to increase contributions. The goal: strengthen this key institution to unlock more financing for trade and investment across Africa.
