LASIK isn’t covered by insurance. Neither is most cosmetic surgery.
Both got cheaper and better every single year for two decades.
The one corner of medicine where patients pay cash and see prices.
Funny how the “market failure” vanishes the second the market’s allowed to exist.
Friedman called this in 1980. The tape doesn’t lie.
I was born in Canada, so when I immigrated to the USA, I took it upon myself to learn the history in some detail. So I went down to Barnes & Noble in about 1994 and picked up a copy of "A People's History of the United States."
Now, I was a 25-yr-old progressive from a socialist province, but even so, that book was whack. No deed is too cruel for the European mind, and the savages are so noble that I wanted to be one. ie: the book is historically useless. It even lacks citations. It's literally the only book I've ever half-finished and returned to the store on principle to get my money back. But some love it.
Instead, I picked up Paul Johnson's "History of the American People". It turns out it makes a big difference whether a book is a "People's History" or a "History of the People"!
Even Johnson can't contain his conservative bias once he gets to about the 1960s, but it's a great book until then! I mean, it's no "Rise and Fall", but it's a good history without a lot of "tsk, tsk".

Whoopi Goldberg’s comments reveal everything wrong with identity politics.
I didn’t marry my wife because she’s white.
She didn’t marry me because I’m Black.
We got married because we share the same values, the same faith, and the same vision for raising a family.
At no point did marrying a white woman make me less Black.
At no point did marrying a Black man make my wife less white.
What it made us was a family.
The people obsessed with race can’t understand that most Americans don’t choose friends, spouses, or family based on skin color. We choose them based on character, values, and love.
The civil rights movement wasn’t about putting race at the center of everything. It was about moving beyond it.
The difference is that under capitalism, some poor bastard would get tired of rowing, invent the steam engine, revolutionize the world, and wind up hated for being rich, so then they'd build theatres and libraries and name them for themselves.
Under communism, you just inform on your neighbor, who is assigned to row, and you are rewarded with a table on deck.
Under fascism, everybody pretends to row and the boat doesn't go anywhere.
It's wild that we let customers experience FSD coast-to-coast themselves.
No professional production, just a normal drive.
Yet to me, this is a bigger step change than AlphaGo or GPT, as there's no special machine behind it—it's something you can buy today.
Kevin O’Leary: Foreign powers are trying to halt U.S. progress with AI, using the Marxist playbook
If true—and O’Leary seems confident it is—this is incredibly disturbing
And it speaks volumes about the organizations they use to manipulate Americans
