In 1924, the year this picture of the Grand Canyon was painted, Gunnar Widforss exhibited a large group of works depicting scenes from US National Parks. An art critic at the time considered Widforss as 'possibly the greatest watercolorist in America today.'
Terrifying thread.
Due to a legal ruling which lets AI companies off the hook for copyright infringement as long as they destroy the original book, they're buying up millions of rare books, scanning them as AI training data, and then destroying them.
On this day in 1919, a Black teenager drifted across an invisible line in Lake Michigan. White beachgoers stoned him until he drowned. He was 17.
His name was Eugene Williams. The "line" was the unofficial boundary between the white and Black sections of a Chicago beach. A line drawn on WATER.
Police arrived. Black witnesses pointed out the man who had thrown the stones. The officer refused to arrest him and arrested a Black man from the crowd instead.
That refusal lit Chicago on fire. Thirteen days of white mobs raiding Black neighborhoods, and Black veterans fighting back: 38 dead, 537 injured, roughly 1,000 Black families burned out of their homes.
It began because a child couldn't see a border that existed only in white minds.
This is why we have documented 150 crimes against Black people that remain unanswered for https://t.co/V6OJtayKnF
In the “to be or not to be” monologue Hamlet refers to death “the undiscovered country” from which “no traveller returns,” despite the fact that Hamlet has personally spoken to a ghost by that point in the play
This was there pre-covid but ever since the pandemic everything has felt like it has gone totally bizarre. At once everyone has gone off the deep end and yet daily life seems to go on as normal. Everyone is insane but it doesn’t really matter.
telling a drop out of society 60s hippie during the worst acid trip of his life that in the future there’ll no longer be beatles vs stones arguments but which rock singer is more virtuous to his wife

Me: a deadly jellyfish?
Him: yes its called a box jellyfish don't touch it
Me: a "box jellyfish"? I shouldn't touch it?
Him: yes its very dangerous
Which means if you made $80,000 in 2020, you need to make $110-115k today just to maintain the exact same lifestyle… don’t let anyone convince it’s ok to take your foot off the gas.
Scientists have said it can't be washed off. The only safe thing to do is cook your fruit. Mainstream news is giving people incorrect & unsafe information. These news outlets are where a lot of older folks get their news. The elderly are also at higher risk of complications.
@jessiechrxst It's insane. The fans are a whole new issue, a journalist asked if the actors have seen the movie or read the final script and people are saying he should be named and shamed fucking hell
really sad how insular film journalism has become... a reporter asking actual questions and not fawning over the actors is seen as a direct attack that should be met with targeted harassment. the super hero genre has set back film as a medium by about 50 years.
