@dilanesper i resent the implication that people were being hysterical about her appointment. the CECOT thing happened so early in her tenure. i'm glad it seems to have gone OK since, but it was understandable to expect otherwise.
@janecoaston you dont understand jane. all those "Playtime's Over, Libs" tweets from after kirk's death were just jokes, but they really mean it this time. we're gonna be living in handmaid's tale by thanksgiving
@OliverCash9@olivertraldi the predominant progressive position is that AI is harmful on resource use grounds but as a technology is basically impotent with limited use cases and does not need to be regulated for safety
@RaisinsDEtre@earp42069@katienotopoulos i think you guys are undergoing some kind of AI-oppositional psychosis. i also think the AI menus are dumb and ugly more often than not, but the way you all are freaking out about this is a little disproportionate
@RaisinsDEtre@earp42069@katienotopoulos it sounds like that was pretty time-consuming and probably pulled them away from other work. don't you think if it were a little 5 min task she wouldn't have bothered with the AI thing?
@chasecharb@earp42069@katienotopoulos well tbf i think it's one of those display menus featuring fall specials. the hard part isn't pictures, it's arranging the text in an aesthetically pleasing way to convey the items and prices. it's not *zero work,* even if it is easy enough to do on canva for most people.
@bolditaIic@maybe_ghuf it's a cafe, they don't have prospective shareholders to impress
imo the biggest issue in this case is that it's ugly. she was never going to hire someone to do this work, so if she wants to cut corners, fine. but the AI menu posters are so fucking stupid-looking
@small20151@eddiekimx i mean there's not really care being put into something on canva either
you pick one of their templates and just replace the sample text with your menu items or whatever
@AshleyAlready and for the love of god don't try to make it a right-left thing. many left-leaning people would think you're insane for thinking the way you do about this. their algorithms just aren't primed for this kind of dating-culture ragebait.
@AshleyAlready if that's not your thing that's fine. i know women who *prefer* a low-stakes first date like coffee bc it's easy to exit if the guy is weird (no waiting for the check). you don't have to want that for yourself, but you should understand that your preferences are not universal.
@majamediaco people don't give up easily enough most of the time. people treat structural barriers like it's a movie and they can just love their way through it all. oh you're in an LDR and she just started med school 800 miles away and you can't move? sure, miracles happen, but be realistic
@ESLBorys well also, as shown right now, fascism absolutely threatens capital lol. capital prefers open markets, immigration, free trade, and a lot of other shit the current admin thinks is gay
@emiliepfrank it's "meet the voters where they are," but many, esp on the left, make the mistake of assuming that most people have the exact same desires and beliefs as they do
@Duderichy as a result, the people most worried about this might genuinely have the most to worry about with it, esp if they're selecting for people who feel the same way. meanwhile those less worried have less reason to worry. their intimate friend hangouts are normalized and thus unsexy.
@Duderichy i'm convinced that people who think like this generally are less trustworthy in these situations/end up w/ similar people. if your default assumption is that there is something flirty about hanging 1 on 1 with a friend, that escalates the sexual tension of such a situation.
