I totally support the National Year Of Reading. We desperately need a culture of reading for pleasure to replace the culture of constant tests in schools, backed by proper government funding. And we need STORYTIME to be part of the school day, every day!

Well-meaning adults can easily crush a child's enthusiasm for reading by dismissing their choices, saying a book is no good. By all means introduce them to books you think are good - but let them READ FOR PLEASURE & they'll be readers forever! #literacy

Who still uses libraries? MILLIONS & MILLIONS OF US! They are vital & irreplaceable - cornerstones of civilisation, democracy and literacy. Cuts to libraries are really cuts to all these things. Every school & every high street should have one. #SaveLibraries
