Broke my own rule yesterday: child comes into my office and says, "Daddy, do you wanna see a card trick?" And I said "No, sorry, busy." Child walks outta the room and closes the door 😭 What a freaking dumbass I was. Later, when we were all together in the evening, same child asked if they could show me the magic trick then, to which I of course said yes and apologised for not giving them the time earlier. But man, even after all these years, I still have to remind myself that work (and whatever else feels “urgent”) will still be there in five minutes. The spontaneous “Daddy, wanna see a card trick?” moments won’t.

Rather, they are learning how addicting fast movement screens are and bright colors release dopamine wrecking dopamine receptors. This age shouldn’t be exposed to that.
