Here’s a little story I wrote for @TheRoarSports ...you might want to read it note for note... “The VAR has disrupted football in Australia, but it’s distracting us from the main issue” #Referee#VAR#ALeague https://t.co/ld43T9P1iW
3 & 4 – Aston Villa are the first side to win three successive Premier League games against Manchester City since Liverpool in December 2016 and the first to win four successive home league matches since Spurs in February 2023.
Heroes.
Points for not going on your phone while at a match? 😮📵
Borussia Dortmund have started an initiative where fans who unlock their phones as infrequently as possible at their stadium will earn points and have the chance to win prizes 🎁
The public brawl over the politics (or otherwise) of Helen Haines’s attacker verges on the obscene. Much of it whipped up by the usual media suspects, of course, but also by the bots and trolls on social media. It’s disgusting and, beyond that, utterly worthless. And you watch: this post, too, will attract a slew of loonies.
NOW: Haaretz, citing White House sources, states that the United States is shifting in favor of a preemptive strike on Iran.
The reason? Because Hegseth has new intelligence that was given to him by Bibi Netanyahu after his surprise visit to Israel.
You’ve GOT to be kidding me…
Tom Skerritt was pure class; every time he stepped in front of a camera, he delivered.
Once described as a “character actor locked in a leading man’s body,” he made it all look effortless.
Rest easy, Viper.
BREAKING: Iran has reportedly activated its "dead hand" doctrine as Iranian officials now believe a joint U.S.-Israeli attack is imminent and have instructed the country’s armed forces to directly activate the decentralized “Mosaic Defense” doctrine, with commanders reportedly receiving extensive lists of U.S. economic and political targets to strike if war erupts, per Fars News.
The activation shifts Iran's military to 31 autonomous provincial commands, designed to ensure devastating retaliatory strikes can be launched even if central leadership is decapitated in a first wave of attacks. Tehran is pre-authorizing field commanders to fire without waiting for orders from the top.
It comes as Trump says the U.S. is "not negotiating" and "something will happen soon," Washington orders the complete evacuation of its embassy staff from the Gulf, and the IRGC claims to have struck seven vessels in a single night. The region is now on a hair trigger for total war.
Stallone hated the 3-hour rough cut of First Blood so much he considered buying and destroying the negatives.
His fix: cut almost all his own dialogue and let the supporting cast carry the tension.
He later said he “wouldn’t change a thing.”
I would never say that @barneyronay is wasted writing about sport because I lap his stuff up. But this is also superb on the politics and sociology of PSG in a rioting Paris
20 - Aston Villa are the second quickest team to reach 20 wins in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League (30th match, behind only Real Madrid (29 matches).
