I regret that this platform is turning ever further to the right, and the news on https://t.co/lKA0lULzjV that Musk has now given the Reform party a verified tick ahead of the other main parties is the last straw. This is my last post. Now @bornpeterdavies.bsky.social . Bye!
Earlier today, Ukrainian forces conducted a highly successful HIMARS strike on a large gathering of Russian soldiers from the 810th Naval Infantry Brigade in Ivanovskoe, Kursk Oblast.
Russian channels report heavy casualties, complaining of systematic Ukrainian targeting.
Russell's approach was revolutionary:
Instead of using off-the-shelf components like everyone else, Luminar developed everything in-house.
Custom lasers. Custom receivers. Custom scanning mechanisms. Custom processing chips.
The industry veterans were skeptical. But Russell saw what they missed:
Today, Russian forces launched a massive offensive in the Kharkiv region near Vovchansk, targeting the 42nd Mechanized Brigade's area of responsibility. Ukrainian defenders were prepared, inflicting losses: 13 killed, 27 wounded, 2 T-62 tanks destroyed, 2 damaged, 2 BMP-3s destroyed, and 1 APC damaged.
When I had a mobile phone snatched by a biker, I gave the police precise GPS details of its two UK locations, including Google maps pictures of front doors. The police refused to go to the addresses or investigate.
This was maddening. The officers said they were not allowed to act on GPS locational data - and also that there are so many street crimes that they can’t cope. But they did want to visit me to take a pointless statement and offer me victim support, when what I actually wanted was my phone back. It is now in Algeria.
The police are significantly under-resourced but there is also an issue about how the existing resources are being deployed.
The Home Secretary says she will give the police the power to act on location data. But it is unclear when this will happen, and why the police can’t even now simply go to a property and knock on a door as a warning to the thieves that they are being watched. And as for the failure to use cctv images, don’t get me started.
Of course thefts and crimes such as the one I experienced are trivial compared to many that go unsolved. Which is why what is reported below will resonate widely.
PS I am not being funny but I thought the most counter-intuitive aspect of the Louise Haigh case is that a decade ago the police took an interest in where her phone might be
Exactly right. History is unlikely to be kind to Joe Biden. He shouldn’t have abandoned Afghanistan to the Taliban, he should have stepped down instead of running ineffectually for a second term, and he certainly shouldn’t have pardoned his son.
The most powerful truths have the simplest solutions.
Pythagoras proved this 2,500 years ago.
One day, during a walk, he uncovered a universal secret.

Today in Kazakhstan, Putin once again promoted his missiles—his readiness to kill and destroy. To the thousands of missiles that have already struck Ukraine, Putin clearly wants to add thousands more.
He does not want this war to end. Moreover, he seeks to prevent others from ending it. By wagging his ‘oreshnik’ now he is aiming solely to disrupt the efforts of President Trump that are sure to follow his inauguration. Putin wants to escalate the situation now to ensure that President Trump cannot succeed in bringing this war to an end.
Putin is the only one responsible for this war and the only one who believes in it. His current escalation is nothing more than a strategy to exert pressure, aiming to force the U.S. president to accept Russia’s terms later. We understand all the existing threats.

Twitter used to be fun. But this X thing is not. Toxic people create their own toxic environments. They know no other. The non-toxic people have no option but to leave. This increases the concentration of toxicity until it becomes caustic. And we know what happens next. #X#f1
Once upon a time, Leeds had trams, lots of them. They helped people get to work, come to the centre to shops and to meet each other for work and play. But then, catastrophically, for the city's long term future and prosperity in 1959....
@Quantuminno_X @Rainmaker1973 Ah! how reassuring! This space elevator, then. It must be a monstrous obstacle for other satellites, how do you avoid collisions?
