At a time when American Jews were barred from many hotels, the "Borscht Belt" was a safe getaway for the summer months & Jewish holidays. It was also a hub for Jewish culture & the birthplace of legendary entertainers. I can't wait to visit the @borschtbelt museum when it opens!
Created by @AndrewJacobsNYT & the Catskills @borschtbelt, one of Reboot Studios’ grant recipients, Borscht Belt Fest taking place on 7/29, celebrates the Borscht Belt’s vibrant past & showcases its legacy & influence on contemporary American culture. https://t.co/Mi7NNce4T6

Often mocked in his lifetime. 'The King of Schlock Art' is the first exhibit of Katz' work since his death in 2010, and seeks to reestablish the painter's place as an outsider artist and quintessentially American cultural phenomenon.
