Husband and father endeavoring to be faithful to Christ who loved me and gave Himself for me. Recipient of Grace. Soli Deo Gloria. I fly airplanes for a living.
Tribulation produces perseverance, which develops experience, which ultimately cultivates hope—and this hope will not disappoint you because God’s love has been poured into your heart through the Holy Spirit (Rom 5:3–5).
If I’m honest I’m not feeling overly “hopeful” today. But I thought I’d share a few thoughts from my reading of Romans 5 this morning.
Paul here illustrates hope’s practical power: it emerges through hardship rather than despite it. Hope realigns your perspective so that temporary difficulties become manageable; problems ultimately pass away. When you’re facing difficulty, this reorientation prevents despair from becoming permanent.
Practically, hope motivates righteous action when your flesh grows weary; Paul urged believers not to lose heart in doing good, and hope should fix your eyes on Jesus so you walk in purity as he did. Rather than waiting passively, you actively pursue integrity because you’re anchored to something greater than present circumstances.
Hope then provides something superior to desire, when the world’s temptations appear attractive, hope redirects your longing toward God’s presence, where alone you’ll find the fullness of joy you truly crave.
And this is me speaking to myself — Wes, to put this hope into practice: cultivate Christ-like characteristics and show diligence in service. Hope isn’t passive sentiment but an active anchor that steadies you through life’s storms when you deliberately cling to it.
I was flying Southwest from Dallas to New York. Three rows ahead of me, there was a young soldier in uniform. He looked barely 18. He was staring straight ahead, gripping the armrests. He looked nervous. When the drink cart came around, the flight attendant asked him what he wanted. 'Coke, please,' he said. 'Heading home?' she asked kindly. 'No, ma'am,' he said. 'Deploying. First time.' The whole row went quiet. The flight attendant didn't say a word. she handed him his Coke. Then, she got on the PA system. 'Ladies and gentlemen, we have a very special guest in Row 8 today. Private Miller is on his first deployment to serve our country. Since I can't buy him a drink, I’m going to ask a favor. If you want to write him a note of encouragement, pass it forward.' I grabbed a napkin. I wrote: 'You got this. Stay safe. - A dad from Row 12.' I watched as napkins traveled up the aisle. Napkins, receipts, pages torn from books. By the time we landed, the soldier had a pile of paper on his tray table three inches high. He stood up to get his bag, and he was wiping his eyes. He carefully packed every single scrap of paper into his rucksack. 'Thank you,' he told the flight attendant. 'No,' she said. 'Thank you.' We all walked off that plane a little quieter, reminded that freedom is just a word until you meet the kid who is defending it.

Scott, no one can 'convert' you but God. You can't even convert on your own. You can't "plan to convert" as you say.
All anyone can do, is share the Gospel with you. But first, you must understand the bad news, which is... you are a guilty sinner. You have broken God's law, repeatedly, all of your life, just like the rest of us.
Scott, have you ever told a lie? or stolen something? or lusted after someone? or used the Lord's name as a cuss word? Even just once? I'm not your judge, but if you answer those questions honestly, you've just admitted to being a lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterer. You will be guilty, and sentenced to hell.
You are deserving of eternal punishment Scott, because you sinned against an eternal God. It's what you have earned for yourself. This is why you need a savior.
Jesus said, "No one is good, not even one." All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God - For it is appointed unto man to die once and then comes judgement - The wages of sin is death - It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
But there is good news. God loves us so much, that he sent His son to earth, to live a perfect sinless life, to be falsely accused and convicted of crimes He did not commit, and to be be tortured, mocked, humiliated, and murdered; for you. Jesus willingly laid down His life for you. He suffered the wrath of the Father, that you earned. He paid your fine.
Jesus took on your sin, and He imputed to you His righteousness, so that you may live, so that you may be seen as clean in God's eyes.
So humble yourself, call out to God confessing your sins and ask forgiveness. Repent of your sins and put your faith in Jesus. That's it.
If you were sincere, the Holy Spirit will live in you and will transform you. You will be made a new creation. You will be given a new heart with new desires. You will be born again.
But not because of any works you perform, rather it is a gift. It is only by Grace (God's unmerited favor) that you can be redeemed.
For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift — not from works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
You, and others will notice a change. You will love the things God loves and you will hate the things God hates. You will thirst for His word. You will see the world differently. And you will enjoy eternal life with God.
We all pray for you and hope to see you in the kingdom one day.
Simsbury, Connecticut:
Take note of who is celebrating the senseless murder of an innocent man.
The left has declared war on American patriots, and they openly yearn to shed innocent blood.
@the_zb_ My wife and I experienced the same thing with our daughter in 2013. Our Christian faith sustained us. There is light on the other side. I’ll pray for you both and I’m sorry.
