On Monday, our office suffered an unimaginable loss. Chris Matthews, my District Outreach and Communications Director, passed away unexpectedly.
If any one of you begin to lose faith in our country, remember Chris Matthews.
Remember he was without question one of the Commonwealth’s sharpest political minds – a generational talent.
Remember that he was more than a Congressional aide. He took the belief that through our actions we all can bring needed change and brought it with him on many interstate bus rides to canvas distant pivotal states and to the doors of the families he inspired.
Remember through his example that public service is a genuinely noble vocation. As a trusted member of our office, he helped countless veterans, families, and those who could not advocate for themselves.
Those of us privileged to have worked with him for over fifteen years will remember his laugh and his wry, often biting, humor – contrasting the way things are to the way they could be.
We will always remember his authentic belief that in this country, people can bring about progress and meaningful change. It was real to him and his sincerity shown through.
Chris was a genuinely good person. He was family to all of us, and we are devastated by his loss, particularly at such a young age.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Molly and Eli and the many who loved him. Though we wish we had more time with him, his memory will continue to give us faith that one person can significantly make better the lives of those around him.
Health security isn't built during an outbreak. It's built long before one.
As countries respond to the current Ebola outbreak, the priority can't only be containing today's crisis—it must also be investing in the health workers, laboratories, surveillance systems, and local clinics that prevent the next one.
Strong health systems mean trained health workers can identify cases earlier. Clinics have the equipment they need. Communities can access care closer to home. Disease surveillance catches outbreaks before they spread further.
When we invest in stronger health systems, we don't just prepare for future outbreaks—we build healthier, more resilient communities and a safer future for everyone. 🌍🤝🏽
A record 9 African teams have reached the World Cup knockout stage. ⚽🌍
It's a historic moment that goes beyond football.
When African athletes compete on the world's biggest stages, they help reshape how millions of people see the continent. Greater visibility creates opportunities to recognize the talent, innovation, leadership, and potential that have always been there.

The Supreme Court has allowed TPS for Haitians to end, putting families in Springfield and communities across the country at risk of being sent back to a country in chaos. Congress can and should extend these protections.
Today, I’m announcing something new to fight back against Donald Trump and his attacks on our democracy. I'm launching Back The Bold to restore accountability in Washington.
The mission is straightforward: to back leaders with the courage to say what needs to be said, do what needs to be done, and hold Donald Trump and his administration accountable. That means supporting Democrats and Independents who refuse to flinch. It's time to be bold. Join the fight.

Trump is refusing to sign a bipartisan bill that would address the housing crisis unless the SAVE America Act (designed to rig elections) is passed.
This isn't governing, it's a hostage situation. Republican, Dem, or Independent this should piss you off.
JD Vance one year ago today:
“I empathize with Americans who are exhausted after 25 years of foreign entanglements in the Middle East. I understand the concern, but the difference is that back then we had dumb presidents"
Americans on Trump's damage to Reflecting Pool:
"What a waste... I just can't believe that we are spending our money this way when there's so many higher priorities—healthcare, childcare, closing the budget deficit. There's a million places we could spend this money."
Stop telling me to vote third party in the midterms.
Not this time.
The priority is removing power from this corrupt, pedo protecting, authoritarian, war-hungry administration. That means helping Democrats win enough seats to investigate, block, expose and impeach these people.
Governor Tim Walz:
"Today's ruling is a victory for the rule of law and our democracy. A federal district judge found that the U.S. Department of Justice’s investigation into me and other Minnesota elected officials was politically motivated, unconstitutional, and meritless.I am proud to have joined Minnesotans in exercising our fundamental American freedoms - of speech, assembly, to disagree with our government.
These rights are enshrined in our Constitution. And, they are what makes America great. An independent judiciary is a pillar of our democracy. It’s one reason why the U.S. has been that shining city on the hill for nearly 250 years. The U.S. Justice Department is pursuing criminal investigations into the President’s political opponents. This case was just one example of that, but we are seeing daily reminders of this administration’s lawlessness - in Minnesota and around the country.
We all must continue to seek justice and uphold the rule of law.I will never stop exercising my constitutional rights to stand up for Minnesotans and the American freedoms that we hold dear."
NEW: A federal judge appointed by George W. Bush has thrown out Justice Department subpoenas targeting Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and his allies, calling them an abusive and retaliatory effort to punish Walz for refusing to assist Trump’s immigration crackdown.
Judge Patrick Schiltz said there was “no doubt” the subpoenas were issued to damage Walz, writing: “Initiating a criminal investigation in order to harass political opponents or to coerce them into taking official action — particularly official action that the federal government cannot directly require those political opponents to take — is a blatantly unlawful and unethical use the grand-jury process.”

The irony of Republicans controlling all branches of government while
bankrupting the country, starting a war, sending money to fraudulent programs, violating the Constitution, giving corporations immunity...
but arguing that the biggest problem we have is “stolen elections.”
It was such a joy getting to spend time with Joe and Jill, George and Laura, and Bill and Hillary last week. Barack and I will always be grateful for your constant friendship and support of our family over the years.
(And George, thanks for the mints!)
