Story behind her solo song "Tornado"

[Song making process]
🌙 : First of all, songwriter Shintaro was in Korea so i was thinking 'should we work on something?' but it was just for fun since we talk a lot about music, we just made a song in the studio. Since i also need to prepare for the concert, long before that i was hoping there was a song worth writing for the solo, or maybe not, but let's just try make something for fun. I was working on it in that mindset.

Originally the concept that i wanted was kinda more on the hyperpop side. So there was another song. The title of that song is 'god/goth' (?). It was really good, but it wasn't something that i felt like 'this is it'. It's such a good song, i personally like it a lot. Then we also made another song. But i really want to write song with the 'boom clap..boom clap' that i like, it's different with music that we do. I feel like as a person myself, in order to make this kind of music there should be originality to it. 'What should i do to make it good?' but it was just something in my mind. At first, i thought, let's just go with R&B since it's something i'm familiar with. Tornado was originally a song with piano. I posted the video on Instagram Story, it has this sweet feeling. But then, how about adding a bit of 808 bass to it? I thought it would be a little strange, but let's just try it.. with a little bit of Shinatro magic.. oh? It's okay tho?. Then the top line was created. The word that keep coming out of my mouth was 'Tornado', i don't even use the word 'Tornado' that much but i don't know why i kept on saying it. So i thought i'm just gonna leave it like this, since it was so natural. We keep trying few more things, the lyrics, and we did this demo within a day, in about 7 hours. Within 7 hours with having meal in between.

We played it at the studio and i sent a video to A&R unnie. Since i made a lot of songs and share it to A&R unnie, she said 'oh.. this is good' and we always doing this not because it was something for the concert. But then we have to decide the solo song for our concert, what the members wants to do, what kind of vibe. When it's time she said 'oh.. it's good tho' and i was like 'yeah right?'.. Well of course, i like it since it’s something that we made. I don't know how it was from other's perspective but unnie said it's good. So me and Shintaro got excited and we made the demo. And at the same day, i played it for our manager oppa, and he was like 'mmm.. good luck' As the deadline approached, we added a bit of the finishing on the demo and it got confirmed. So this is how the song Tornado was able to come out.

[Choreo & Performance]
🌙 : I actually wanted to use handmic for the dance as the point of this song. Since dopamine used headset mic, this time i wanted to focus more on singing the song rather than having a lot of dancing. As for the choreo, Rie teacher was able to make something that really match the vibe that i wanted. I actually worried on how this should be expressed on the stage to be good. I told Rie teacher 'i wish it would be something lovely~', since her style is more strong and hip-hop but she actually filmed the draft so beautifully. So after i received it, i was like 'Rie teacher can do something like this' since it was so lovely. The members watched it as well and thought 'eh? it's so cute and lovely' so i thought i should work hard. I took classes and we made changes this and that together, and that's how it was made. Since there's not much time left, we did everything within 2-3 days from learning, how it will work, the movement, all of that.

[Lyrics]
🌙 : I wrote all the lyrics but as you guys know, i really like reggae music. I hope Tornado would have that tropical kind of vibe too. Some of the words in the lyrics kinda have something unfamiliar like 'ting-a-ling-a-ling like shabba~' and something like 'bruk-up bruk-up' those comes up from that styles of music, pretty much like shout out. As for the meaning 'I make your mind go Tornado' : I'm going to make your mind and state to go 🌪. 'Said it boy, thought you would~' : It's something like, I knew you would tell me that you love me, just say it. Also, 'I always got you and i could love you' : this too, it's like "tell that to me like this" now that you've said it, i'm satisfied 👍. This is that kind of song. The song is brighter than you think but the lyrics are a bit bad. You know. When you look at the lyrics, you can say it's slightly similar to Dopamine. But it's more exciting. 'So what? This is life~ let's just enjoy it~' that kind of feeling. It was a bit long but Tornado is a very precious song to me. Among all the songs i've made, and although i've worked on a lot of songs, and i'm still working on them, Tornado is a song that i'm proud of. So i hope you listen to it a lot.
